    Maker

    Sunday January 11, 2015 / 3 – 4:30 pm

Maker is a feature-length documentary on the Maker Movement and its impact on society, culture and economy in the U.S. The ‘Maker Movement’, sometimes called the ‘Third Industrial Revolution,’ subverts traditional manufacturing by building on innovative concepts such as open source, local manufacturing, crowd funding, and digital fabrication. Breaking the hobbyist movement stereotype, Maker delves deep into this ecosystem of design and manufacturing in the Internet era. The film explores the ideas, tools, and personalities that are driving the Maker Movement—and returns with a timely snapshot of one of the transforming influences of the current age.

The Folk & the Lore: The Place Between

    Saturday January 17, 2015 / 6 – 7:30 pm

Celebrate the conclusion of Late Harvest with the first The Folk & the Lore of 2015 with stories and videos about the intersection of humanity and the untamed.

From the creative mind of Jessi LeMay comes the storytelling and narrative filmmaking project The Folk & the Lore. This multimedia project aims to collect, archive, and tell stories from Reno and throughout the region through photography, short films, and live storytelling events that will be held regularly at the Nevada Museum of Art. Together, we believe that when you know your neighbor’s story, not only do you feel more connected to your community, but those stories become part of your own. Join this premiere event for an evening of storytelling and films based on the holidays. Doors open at 5pm for social hour and chez louie cash bar. Stories begin at 6pm.

    Code Black

    Sunday January 25, 2015 / 3 – 4:30 pm

In his vivid and thought-provoking filmmaking debut, physician Ryan McGarry gives us unprecedented access to America’s busiest Emergency Department. Amidst real life-and-death situations, McGarry follows a dedicated team of charismatic, young doctors-in-training as they wrestle openly with both their ideals and with the realities of saving lives in a complex and overburdened system. Their training ground and source of inspiration is “C-Booth,” Los Angeles County Hospital’s legendary trauma bay, the birthplace of Emergency Medicine, where “more people have died and more people have been saved than in any other square footage in the United States.” CODE BLACK offers a tense, doctor’s-eye view, right into the heart of the healthcare debate – bringing us face to face with America’s only 24/7 safety net.
