As the City Manager of Black Rock City for over 10 years, Harley oversaw the Playa Safety Council and Community Services departments, ensuring the citizens of BRC are happy and safe.  Join Harley as she discusses the psychology of Burning Man.

    Educator Evening

    Wednesday December 6, 2017 / 4 – 6 pm

    Local educators are invited to this FREE special series on the first Wednesday of every month (excluding January and July). Join Charles N. Mathewson Director of Education Marisa Cooper for a presentation, discussion and activity based on the Museum’s collections and current exhibitions as they relate to teaching and the Nevada Academic Content Standards.

    A light reception will follow the presentation. Teacher in-service credit is available for participating in the Educator Evenings. Earn 0.5 teacher in-service credit for attending five Educator Evenings and 1.0 credit for attending ten during August 1 through July 31 timeframe. Please check with the State of Nevada to see if credit may be applied to your area of licensure.

    Tony Coyote on Stories, Ceremony and Rituals

    Friday December 8, 2017 / 12 – 1 pm

    Tony “Coyote” Perez has been traveling to the desert to help build and strike Black Rock City since 1996. He helped to found the Department of Public Works in 1998 and has been the City Superintendent ever since. Known as the “Bard of the Desert” he is Burning Man’s first Storytelling Fellow. Join Tony as he weaves the tale of the Golden Spike and other desert rituals.

    Art Afternoon: Workshop and Social for Seniors

    Friday December 8, 2017 / 1 – 3 pm

    Seniors are invited to spend the afternoon at the Museum. Enjoy a guided tour and a studio art class along with light refreshments. Monthly tours and projects are designed for participants of all levels of experience and offer an engaging and interactive experience. These monthly sessions are held on the second Friday of each month. Advanced registration is recommended.

    Museum School Open House and Hands ON! Second Saturdays

    Saturday December 9, 2017 / 10 am – 6 pm

    The Hands ON! on Second Saturdays program offers monthly free admission, hands-on art activities, storytelling, a docent-guided tour, live performances, and community collaborations.  “Art Investigators” provides children and families with the opportunity to engage with Museum staff and take a closer look at selected artworks while engaging in a dialogue about the selected pieces.  Themes and programs change monthly and rotate through cultural explorations, exhibition connections and community partnerships.  Join us in December for our annual Open House in the E.L. Cord Museum School. Meet some of the Museum School instructors and enjoy hands-on art activities!

Mary O’Brien will showcase the jewelry line Casa Katalina, designed by her sister Katherine Leutzinger in collaboration with a family of goldsmiths in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico.     Early Childhood Education Roundtable

    Educators are invited to these FREE monthly roundtables, which provide participants an opportunity to interact with art and each other. Principles of design, interactive activities, and implications for teaching and learning inform the discussion about dynamic multi-modal learning that results from creative play and inquiry-based early childhood experiences. Registration is required. For questions, please contact Leah Sanders, curriculum coach at UNR.

    $teven Ra$pa is an accomplished artist, culture jammer, multimedia performer and community organizer. He serves as Burning Man Project’s Associate Director of Community Events, and his work has appeared in film, print, and television internationally.
