    Educator Evenings

    Wednesday September 5, 2018 / 4 – 6 pm

    Local educators are invited to this FREE special series on the first Wednesday of every month (excluding January and July). Join Charles N. Mathewson Director of Education Marisa Cooper for a presentation, discussion and activity based on the Museum’s collections and current exhibitions as they relate to teaching and the Nevada Academic Content Standards.

    A light reception will follow the presentation. Teacher in-service credit is available for participating in the Educator Evenings. Earn 0.5 teacher in-service credit for attending five Educator Evenings and 1.0 credit for attending ten during August 1 through July 31 timeframe. Please check with the State of Nevada to see if credit may be applied to your area of licensure.

    Hands ON! Second Saturdays

    Saturday September 8, 2018 / 10 am – 6 pm

    The Hands ON! on Second Saturdays program offers monthly free admission, hands-on art activities, storytelling, a docent-guided tour, live performances, and community collaborations.  “Art Investigators” provides children the opportunity to engage with Museum staff and take a closer look at artwork while engaging in a dialogue about key pieces.  New exhibitions, community collaborations, cultural explorations, guest performances and monthly themes rotate in this engaging series of monthly programs.

    Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl Keynote: Inspiring Radical Creativity with Gabby Rivera

    Saturday September 15, 2018 / 12 – 1:30 pm

    Nevada Humanities presents the Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl Keynote Event, featuring keynote speaker, Gabby Rivera. Rivera believes that the tools writers use to build a better story are the same tools we can use to improve our most vulnerable communities: good dialogue, and radical creativity. Come listen to the author of Juliet Takes a Breath and Marvel Comics’ AMERICA as she presents “Inspiring Radical Creativity.” There will be a question and answer session following the presentation, hosted by Felicia Perez. A book signing will follow the program. Gabby Rivera is the keynote speaker for the fifth annual Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl, which takes place on Saturday, September 15, throughout the California Avenue corridor.     Nevada Humanities presents Collateral&Co. Contemporary Dance Company

    Saturday September 15, 2018 / 1 – 2 pm

    As part of the Nevada Nevada Humanities Literary Crawl presents a performance by Collateral&Co. Contemporary Dance Company. This free performance will be held on the Sculpture Plaza of the Museum.  Collateral&Co. Contemporary Dance Company’s performance explores and responds to the in-progress poems of Gailmarie Pahmeier, who has been traveling throughout the state in Nevada state parks composing narratives about the people she encounters in these often remote locations.
