The permanent collection is the heart
of a fine arts museum. Held in trust by the Museum and enriched constantly, the collection is an inexhaustible treasure that grows in value and meaning. The permanent collection provides both the Museum and the community with a variety of fine artwork regularly displayed for the public. The collection is a resource for exhibitions and educational programs. The Permanent Collection at the Nevada Museum of Art consists of over 2,000 works of nineteenth through twenty-first century art and is divided into five focus areas that are unified by an overarching focus on natural, built and virtual environments. This thematic, rather than historical or stylistic specialization, is a natural outgrowth of the institution’s collecting practices over the years and offers varied perspectives on the ways in which humans interact with the world.
