Sierra Nevada | Great Basin
The Sierra Nevada | Great Basin Collection surveys the art of the geographic region, allowing our guests the opportunity to explore their visual heritage. In many ways considered the founding collection of the institution, this collection includes Native American baskets, historical oil paintings, photographs, etchings and drawings. Highlights of the collection include works by Maynard Dixon, Lorenzo Latimer, Timothy O’Sullivan, Carleton Watkins, and Edward Weston, as well as contemporary works by Chester Arnold, Chuck Forsman, Tony Foster, and Phyllis Shafer. The Sierra Nevada | Great Basin Collection traces the myriad ways artists have interpreted the region over the past 150 years.
