The E.L. Cord Museum School of the Nevada Museum of Art is accepting enrollment for the below classes. Classes are limited in size, therefore early registration is recommended. Scholarships are available for all ages. Please call the Museum for details at 775.329.3333 ex 260.

MASK MAKING
Mondays, February 6 to February 27 / 6:00PM - 9:00PM
Explore the fascinating and ancient craft of mask making. From the mysterious and spiritual to the funny and whimsical, students will learn how to design and create a wide variety of masks. Sessions include hands-on activities in manipulating materials from paper maché to plastic, natural materials, recycled and re-purposed materials and more.
This class is offered for 0.5 teacher in-service credit. Please refer to the Nevada Department of Education's teacher licensing requirements.Instructor: Rex Norman

Required Supplies: A basic tool kit that includes the following:
-scissors
-craft knife
-hot glue gun (small size works well)
-a variety of brushes for painting and glue applicationsSuggested Supplies: The instructor will provide materials for the paper maché activity.
After each class, students will be sent on a “treasure hunt” to find natural and man made materials that they will incorporate into their mask projects.

HISTORICAL COSTUME DRAWING & PAINTING
Tuesdays, February 7 to March 13 / 6:00PM - 9:00PM
Experience the fun of drawing & painting live costumed models from different eras while developing your personal technique. Learn perspective, shading, color, and texture techniques using the drawing or painting medium of your choice. Each class will consist of a 3-hour pose. Beginners are welcome. The instructor will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction when requested.
This class is offered for 1 teacher in-service credit. Please refer to the Nevada Department of Education's teacher licensing requirements.Instructor: Jerry Stinson

Suggested Supplies: The following are suggested basic supplies - all media are welcome, so please bring whatever supplies you need for whichever media you are using.
• Drawing board – 20”x 26” or larger (light-weight masonite works best)
• Newsprint pad – 18”x 24” – rough surface recommended
• Bull dog clamps or similar to attach pad to board
Medium and Support Items
• Vine charcoal, thin and fat pieces
• Choice of conte crayon, 6B graphite pencil or sticks, china marker, compressed charcoal, carbon pencils, or any suitable medium for drawing on newsprint
• Large kneaded eraser
• Pink pearl eraser
• Portable pencil sharpener or utility knife (best for soft/medium pencils)
• Clean small rags
• Sandpaper pad for sharpening drawing mediums
• Stumps for blending (optional) -

PAINTING CLINIC: OPEN STUDIO
Thursdays, March 1 to April 5 / 6:00PM - 9:00PM
Bring your work to this accessible class to get serious feedback, helpful instruction, and reserved weekly studio time. Students will appreciate and enjoy this supportive, energetic environment to develop existing projects and start new ones. Students may work with oil or acrylic paints.

Required Supplies: Students are encouraged to bring examples of the work they would like help with, their current painting set-up and supplies. They will need a palette, brushes and or painting knives, your palette of oil or acrylic paints including any painting medium you are using and supports (canvas, panels, etc.).

DRAWING FROM OBSERVATION
Fridays, March 2 to April 6 / 9:00AM - 12:00PM
Learn to draw using line, shape, value, perspective, and composition in this beginning class. Successfully translate what you see into two dimensions by studying observational techniques. Create finished works while exploring different drawing media such as pencil, charcoal, Conté crayon, and ink.

BOOK ARTS: TIPS, TOOL & TECHNIQUES
Tuesdays, March 6 to March 20 / 6:00PM - 9:00PM
If you’ve taken a calligraphy class and want to delve in deeper, then this class is for you! The topics will include pens (dip, fountain, etc.), papers (smooth, textured, etc.), layout (rough draft to finished piece), and wet media (watercolor, gouache, inks, etc.). After exploration and experimentation, students will be guided to a finished piece of art. A $15-$18 materials fee is due to the instructor on the first day of class.

Wednesdays, March 14 to April 4 / 6:00PM - 9:00PM
Improve your life drawing skills and explore a variety of media while working freely from a nude model in this popular class. The instructor will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction upon request. Both male and female models will be drawn.

OIL PASTEL SMUDGE
Tuesdays, March 20 to April 3 / 1:00PM - 4:00PM
Create miniature landscapes and floral design with your fingers that will entertain and delight. This straightforward and simple artistic style uses oil pastels to create artwork in minutes with satisfying results!

-Colored Paper - specific colors to be introduced in class
