    Natural Illustration: Bees and Wasps in Graphite

    Sunday, May 6 / 10 am – 3 pm

    In this intermediate to advanced class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on bee/wasp illustration using graphite pencils. Students will learn about bee/wasp anatomy, creating a final work illustrating the bee/wasp and two chosen details on the insect. Specimens of bee and wasps will be provided to draw from life, as well as photo reference materials. *Students should have some drawing experience and should be familiar with basic graphite pencil techniques. *Supply list.

    Drawing Techniques: The Still Life in Dry Media

    Tuesdays, May 15 - June 5 / 1 - 4 pm

    Students will enjoy this introductory level course designed to introduce student to dry media with a focus on the still life. Students will work on approaches to textures like glass, fabric and metals while exploring drawing techniques. This class is designed to provide a foundation for drawing, teaching students how to realistically render objects, texture and light. *Supply list.

    Natural Illustration: Summer Sea Shells in Watercolor and Colored Pencil

    Sunday, June 3 / 10 am – 3 pm

    In this intermediate to advanced class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on sea shells and mixed media (watercolor and prismacolor). Students will learn about many types of sea shells, creating a final detailed drawing of sea shell. Shell specimens will be provided to draw from life, along with photo reference materials. *Basic understanding of drawing and/or watercolor techniques advised. *Supply list.

    Summer Intensive: A Crash Course in Drawing Fundamentals

    Monday - Friday, June 18 - 22 / 9 am - 12 pm

    Students will enjoy this introductory level course designed to teach basic drawing techniques including rendering, figure drawing, and perspective. This class is designed to provide a foundation for drawing, teaching students how to realistically draw objects, environments and people. Each class will focus on different drawing techniques and strategies, beginning with rendering and shading objects in perspective to drawing a live model. *Supply list.

    Drawing the Landscape: Value, Depth and Perspective

    Monday - Friday, July 9 - 13 / 9 am - 12 pm

    From field sketches to finished works artists have always worked to capture the landscape. In this class students will learn techniques for working quickly when time is of the essence, and how to develop a drawing over a period of time. Along with value, depth and perspective students cultivate an eye for composition. Students will be introduced to a variety of mediums, as well as complete a sketch using oil paint. *Supply list.

Students will learn about many types of succulents, their natural habitats, and creatures whom interact or co-habitate with succulents. Students will create a final drawing of a chosen succulent in a natural environment.     In this intermediate to advanced level class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on leaf structures and pen-and-ink drawing. Students will learn about plant anatomy and venous structures, using magnifying glasses to scrutinize and illustrate details. Students will learn how to use pen-and-ink to create many types of detail and texture. Some leaf specimens will be provided to draw from life along with photo reference materials. A basic understanding of drawing techniques is advised. *Supply list.
