Build your own a three dimensional model from a two dimensional plan using cut and paste materials while learning how to build models from a working architect. |

Through hand-writing the alphabet, students will examine letter proportion and construction and make cards, books and construct an accordion-folded paper that fits inside the drawers of a tiny dresser. An approximate materials fee of $10 is due to the instructor the first day of class. |

Costume Making: Get Ready For Burning Man |

Bring in some old clothes to create your own costume for Burning Man with costume-maker and longtime burner Geoffrey Nelson. Use battery-operated electroluminescent wire and a buttoneer to embellish a piece of clothing so that it will glow in the dark. Cover a hat with imitation fur and sequins and make accessories such as bracelets, necklaces and anklets out of lights. Electroluminescent wire and other materials will be available for purchase during the workshop, along with many other free embellishments. Contributions and bartering of supplies is encouraged. |

In this two-day workshop, students will learn how to weave using a 4-foot loom. This technique is easier and produces a more supple fabric than traditional triangle loom weaving. It can be used to produce a shawl, scarf, baby blanket or throw. The class will learn how to set up a jig, embellish the weaving, join woven triangles and other finishing techniques. The class materials include a hand-made loom to keep at a deeply discounted price. No previous experience is necessary. |

Begin your design education by developing a visual vocabulary through hands-on projects while learning the history of design. Projects will be completed at home using cut and paste media -- no computer is required for this course. This class is foundational and is prerequisite to the fall session’s Graphic Design I -- where students will begin to build a portfolio to further their design education or apply to design schools. Enrollment is limited to 15 students. |
