PLEIN AIR PAINTING Travel to scenic outdoor locations near downtown Reno and paint small color studies (pochades) using oils. Through hands-on instruction, learn how to quickly capture light in the landscape. Students should have a good foundation in color mixing and painting with oils. |

PAINTING II: OILS Paint from a still life using traditional oils and gain a foundational knowledge about setting up subjects, blocking, brushwork, mixing color and the use of mediums. The ala prima (in one sitting) method will be taught. Classes will consist of lectures, demonstrations, hands on experience and critiques.

SCULPTING WILDLIFE Create wildlife sculptures using an easy-to-use, artist-quality oil clay. Incorporate geometric shapes, textures, and blending. Work with Mischell Riley, who is featured in a sculpting show on public television in Europe. Purchase Chevant oil clay from the Museum for an additional cost of $20.

FLY TYING – INTERMEDIATE Fly fishers who want to tie their own flies will explore fly proportions, production-tying techniques, and complex patterns. Tie hair poppers, streamers, terrestrials, nymphs, and dry flies. Students will make epoxy heads, layer hair on streamers, pack and trim hair bugs, work with foam, create hair hackles and more. The last class will be an open studio where students may tie any fly and get feedback. An approximate materials fee of $30 will be due to the instructor the first day of class. |

JULY SUMMER DRAMA CAMP: THEATER EXPLORATION Youth will experience the fun of theater while building self-confidence and performance skills. Body talk, pantomime play, voice coaching, improv games, and participating in small group skits will be explored. No memorization or previous experience required. JULY SUMMER ART CAMP: VOLCANOES & THE PREHISTORIC WORLD Boys and girls will artistically explore prehistoric Earth when it was home to dinosaurs, giant plants, primitive mammals, and volcanoes. Make an erupting volcano out of clay and create drawings, paintings, prints, and sculptures inspired by the prehistoric world. Bring a sack lunch - please no foods containing nuts. |

JULY SUMMER ART CAMP: CREATIVE CARTOONS Campers will learn about the use of line, shape, and exaggeration to give their cartoon characters personality and expression. Cartoons of people, animals, and imaginary characters will be made using drawing, painting and printmaking projects. Bring a sack lunch - please no foods containting nuts. |

Registration Information
Registrations are accepted on a first come, first-served basis until
maximum class size is reached. Students needing to withdraw from
a class after registering may receive a tuition refund less a $5
administrative cost if the NMA is notified five business days before
the first session of class. No refunds thereafter.
Scholarships

Teacher In-Service
The NMA's museum school also offers in-service credit on select classes for teachers and educators of the Washoe County School District. If you are interested in this opportunity, please call 775.329.3333 ex. 260 to verify class availability.
Class location
Almost all classes are held at the Nevada Museum of Art, 160 West Liberty Street in Reno. The Museum School is accessed via the double doors marked "Museum School" on the east side of the museum at the south end of the parking lot. Because certain classes are held when the galleries are closed, there is no entrance to the Museum School through the museum's main entrance.
