NOTE: This class is sold out. If you would like to be placed on the wait list, please e-mail claire.munoz@nevadaart.org Utilizing this down and dirty binding technique, students will create a hard bound journal consisting of 9 signatures. This binding was modified from the German case binding used throughout the modern era for books from throughout the world. The sewn boards binding uses thread as well as adhesive in its construction. It was developed to rescue library books that had been too damaged to circulate. Students will learn the technique and will be able to create this structure (and repair damaged books) at home. This two day workshop showcases the interwoven aspects of stitch/thread and book binding that even today makes the most cherished books last a lifetime. Students will have the option of using an awl or a pin punch to create the journal as well as a choice of threads. The instructor will provide a variety of decorative papers for the covers and crème papers for the book block. Adhesive, brushes, needles, thread and cover material will also be provided.
