Some Dry Space: An Inhabited West

Photographs by Michael Light, introduction by Ann M. Wolfe, conversation with William L. Fox and Michael Light.

Michael Light’s aerial photographs of the American West show vast landscapes marked by spectacular geographical features, as well as sites that have been unremittingly altered by human activity. To view the Earth&’s surface through the lens of Light’s camera is to confront the visual reality of the place where we live, and to surrender to the vulnerability that such confrontation calls forth. Light focuses is the examination of the poetics and politics of landscape imagery, often employing beautiful and seductive photographs to initiate complex dialogues. This publication was published in conjunction with the exhibition presented at the Nevada Museum of Art from September 13, 2008 to January 4, 2009. Call 775.329.3333 x106 to order by phone.
