Volunteer Opportunities

Internships

The Museum offers a limited number of unpaid internships per year. An intern may work for a particular department or cover a range of departments. Where possible, efforts are made to match interns to a department or a special project that marries their skill set with Museum need.

Customer Service

Customer service volunteers interested in staffing the Museum Store or the admissions desk serve as the primary contact between the Museum and the general public. A friendly welcoming attitude is required. Duties include greeting and assisting guests, coat/bag check, answering telephones, and selling gift items, tickets and tuition. Customer service volunteers also serve as ushers for events hosted in the Theater.

Administrative Support

Administrative volunteers provide valuable office and clerical support. Duties include filing, word processing, mailings, distribution of printed materials, research and data input.

Exhibition and Curatorial Support

Volunteers assisting with exhibition installation become part of a team responsible for prepping, painting, labeling, and cleaning. Art handling training is required. Curatorial support includes assistance with data entry, research, filing and special projects.

Docents

Docents host guided tours and workshops about the exhibitions and collections. Tours are given daily to a large range of groups who vary in age and interest. Specialized training and a love of public speaking is required to become a docent. To learn more about docent activities and training, click here LINK TO 4.3.1.1

Hospitality and Event Support

Hospitality volunteers assist with the planning and staffing of numerous Museum events. From regularly scheduled events such as First Thursday and KUNR Jazz Brunch to Members’ Premieres, A Taste for Art and other unique fundraisers, volunteer duties include planning, set up and tear down, greeting guests, etc.

Library Support

The Center for Art + Environment Library|Fred & Sherry Sibayan Library is staffed by volunteers with duties that include greeting and assisting guests, shelving and organizing books, and working on special projects.

Gardening

Our dedicated volunteers maintain the Museum’s landscape throughout the year. Duties include raking, pruning, removing debris, and caring for the plant life surrounding the Museum.
