    Educator Evening

    Wednesday September 7, 2016 / 4 – 6 pm

    Local educators are invited to this FREE special series on the first Wednesday of every month (excluding January and July). Join Charles N. Mathewson Director of Education Marisa Cooper for a presentation, discussion and activity based on the Museum’s collections and current exhibitions as they relate to teaching and the Nevada Academic Content Standards.

    A light reception will follow the presentation. Teacher in-service credit is available for participating in the Educator Evenings. Earn 0.5 teacher in-service credit for attending five Educator Evenings and 1.0 credit for attending ten during August 1 through July 31 timeframe. Please check with the State of Nevada to see if credit may be applied to your area of licensure.

    Make your Mark: Art and Process with Artist Brent Sommerhauser

    Las Vegas based artist, Brent Sommerhauser’s sculptural and drawing work utilizes a variety of constructed and invented tools and processes to create non-traditional installations and works on paper. Join us as Sommerhauser explores the tools and processes he designs to create his drawings and three dimensional sculptures featured in the exhibition Tilting the Basin.

    Art Afternoon: Workshop and Social for Seniors

    Friday September 9, 2016 / 1 – 3 pm

    Seniors are invited to spend the afternoon at the Museum. Enjoy a guided tour and a studio art class along with light refreshments. Monthly tours and projects are designed for participants of all levels of experience and offer an engaging and interactive experience. These monthly sessions are held on the second Friday of each month. Registration is available online or day of.

    Early Childhood Education Roundtable

    Educators are invited to these FREE monthly roundtables, which provide participants an opportunity to interact with art and each other. Principles of design, interactive activities, and implications for teaching and learning inform the discussion about dynamic multi-modal learning that results from creative play and inquiry-based early childhood experiences. Registration is required. For questions, please contact Leah Sanders, curriculum coach at UNR.

    The Making of Seven Magic Mountains: Film and Panel Discussion

    Join us for a live panel discussion and film presentation featuring those who worked behind the scenes to fabricate and install Ugo Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains. A discussion led by the Nevada Museum of Art’s Director of Communications, Amanda Horn, will include a behind the scenes peek at the installation of the monumental public artwork, Seven Magic Mountains in the Las Vegas desert. Hear from the Museum’s Curator of Contemporary Art, JoAnne Northrup; Director of the Center for Art + Environment, Bill Fox; and other important guests who made this work possible.

    D.I.C.E. 2016: ADAPT

    For the past 6 years, DICE has served as a platform for all design disciplines and how they improve our future. With the Nevada Museum of Art’s space as a creative catalyst, DICE presents an annual competition and gathers some of the world’s most inspiring speakers. The goal is to challenge our thinking and explore the power and potential of good design. Featuring renowned graphic designer Karin Hibma, landscape architect Gena Wirth, Reno’s own Stan Byers and Libby Brokaw from STANCAN Design, and urbanist Ashley Z. Hand, the afternoon is full of multi-disciplinary design ideas and a creative competition, capped off by a brief reception. More information can be found at www.designconferencenv.com
