Chester Arnold: On Earth as It Is in Heaven

By Ann M. Wolfe and Colin Robertson

For Chester Arnold, painting is as much about politics and social responsibility as it is about crafting large-scale oil paintings in the tradition of nineteenth-century European Artists. In the three decades that Arnold has been painting he has cleverly confronted a range of challenging subjects, from land use and environmental issues to the global impacts of human and industrial consumption. The paintings united in this publication ask viewers to consider the implications of unchecked economic development and industrialized growth on the natural environment. This book was published in conjunction with the exhibition Chester Arnold: On Earth as It Is in Heaven, presented at the Nevada Museum of Art from August 14 to October 17, 2010.
