Virtual Educator Evening: Visual Thinking Strategies

Educators are invited to join us in October for a conversation on Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS). VTS is intended to transform the way students think and learn. Based in theory and research, VTS uses skilled facilitation of visual art discussions to significantly increase student engagement, performance, and enjoyment of learning. VTS is intended to empower individuals to broaden their capacity to make meaning, to shift education practice to prioritize facilitation of learner experience and engage in rigorous discussion through the lens of visual art.

Virtual Educator Evening: Design-Based Learning

Design-Based Learning is structured around Essential Questions described in the standard K–12 curricula content. Encompassing all subject areas, Design-Based Learning is an interdisciplinary methodology that ignites creativity and motivates civic engagement to teach critical thinking and problem solving. Join us for an introduction to Design-based Learning with Jessica Heim, Director of the Design-Based Learning Project at UCLA Center X in the UCLA School of Education & Information Studies.

For this session, please have a few simple recyclable materials gathered in advance as well as simple building materials (scissors, tape, glue). Examples of recyclables are: paper plates, paper, yarn, foil, etc. Be ready to go through an engaging design challenge and share your creations with the group to learn more about Design-Based Learning.
