Local educators are invited to this FREE special series on the first Wednesday of every month (excluding January and July). Join Charles N. Mathewson Director of Education Marisa Cooper for a presentation, discussion and activity based on the Museum’s collections and current exhibitions as they relate to teaching and the Nevada Academic Content Standards.
A light reception will follow the presentation. Teacher in-service credit is available for participating in the Educator Evenings. Earn 0.5 teacher in-service credit for attending five Educator Evenings and 1.0 credit for attending ten during August 1 through July 31 timeframe. Please check with the State of Nevada to see if credit may be applied to your area of licensure.

11:30 am – 1:30 pm | “Family Fiesta” – Join Las Vegas based artist, Justin Favela and his family in a public celebration featuring his family’s celebratory traditions. Guests will enjoy live music, a taco buffet, a piñata on the rooftop of the Museum. Favela’s work is featured in the exhibition Tilting the Basin: Contemporary Art of Nevada.

Celebrate the Year of the Monkey
Themed around the Chinese Lunar New Year, participants will enjoy a Chinese Dance and Cultural Presentation by Xian Na “Sonia” Carlson and her group of traditional Chinese dancers. Themed art projects and storytelling will continue to explore Chinese traditions surrounding the New Year. All visitors will enjoy free admission all day.
