The E.L. Cord Museum School of the Nevada Museum of Art is accepting enrollment for the below classes. Classes are limited in size, therefore early registration is recommended. Scholarships are available for all ages. Please call the Museum for details at 775.329.3333 ex 260.

WOODEN, EMBOSSED METAL & BEADED CHIMES
Wednesdays, February 22 to March 14 / 1:00PM - 4:00PM
Create your own unique wooden chimes reflecting the architecture of antiquity. Students will focus on design principles, materials, including favorite jewels and beads, and tools to create miniature works of expressionistic sculpture for our time! A $45 fee is due to the Instructor the first day of class. Enrollment is limited to 8 students.

Class Begins: Wednesday February 22, 1:00PM - 4:00PM
Ages: 15 and Up / All Levels

Required Supplies:
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Eraser
- small metal ruler 6" is fine
- Small head hammer
- fabric tack or wood glue (vary small amount)
- Cardboard emery file for nails and great on small items of wood
- Beads of Choice - that will go well with the Chime of copper or aluminum (Several color combinations will be discussed in the first and second class)
- Pliers: "Jewelry" needle nose and crimp bead pliers
- Crimp Beads (shown during the first class, if you are not familiar)
- Choice in Beading wire or stretch elastic. (Depending on the bead effect desired)
- Linked Chain (for hanging of the Chime from the top or other uses!)
- Burndt Umber Brown Acrylic Paint (and other acrylic paint colors that will go well with your favorite beads)
- Paint Brushes…Small Flat tip, pointed, paint brush.
- Other decorative paint applications if you so desire. (to be discussed in class)
- Water dish
- Clean Wash cloth (for soft surface and protection of wood and metal when pounding)
- Rag for smearing paint if desired effect is wished.
Suggested Supplies:
-A digital camera (for referencing ideas is a great tool for this type of work when the ideas just start flowing - capture the moment!)
Instructor Notes: We will complete two Chimes during our time together. The $45 fee goes toward the following materials and the use of tools provided.
- A baggie for each student with wooden blocks (some sanding may be necessary)
- Several pieces of decorative wooden trim molding (that will need to be measured and cut to size)
- 1 roll or several sheets of copper and aluminum for embossing
- Copper tacks and small length nails
- 1 to 2 sheets of fine grain sand paper
- Several Screw in Eyelets
and…for Student use the first 2 classes the following tools will be shared (if you are able to bring your own of the following items that would be helpful and wonderful as we will all be taking turns using each one I provide):
- Miter Box and Saw (cutting of trim molding)
- Super Easy Cutter (Midwest Products)
- Hand Electric Drill and Drill bits (setting molding in place before adding tack)
- Wooden block/hard stone for pounding surface
- Woodburning tool for easy markings for drilling holes
- Wood Sanding block
- Embossing tools (to review… and later to purchase for the next class)

THE PHOTOGRAPHIC PORTRAIT
Saturdays, February 25 to March 3 / 9:00AM - 4:00PM
Explore the power and subtlety of the photographic portrait. Learn to capture a subject's personality through lighting demonstrations and photo shoots at the studio of photographer Jeff Ross. Designed for those looking to build their photography portfolio or apply to design schools, three hours of portraiture homework will be assigned each week. Access to a digital SLR is required. This class is offered for 0.5 teacher in-service credit. Please refer to the Nevada Department of Education's teacher licensing requirements.Instructor: Jeff Ross
Class Begins: Saturday February 25, 9:00AM - 4:00PM
Ages: 15 and up / Intermediate Levels and up

Required Supplies:
- Digital SLR with zoom lens.
- Laptop computer with CD Burner or USB flash drive—PC or Mac. Computer should have at least 15-20 GB of open hard drive space and at least 1 GB of Ram.
- The current version of an image editing application installed such as Adobe Photoshop CS2 or CS3, Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop Elements, or Aperture from Apple.
- Ability to download images from your camera to the laptop, edit images using your image editing software, and organize the edited images for critique.
- Six to ten images to share at the first class session

ACRYLIC PORTRAITURE & THE CLOTHED MODEL
Mondays, February 27 to April 2 / 6:00PM - 9:00PM
Explore portraiture and the clothed figure by painting clothed models. First, get familiar with facial structure and value by drawing portraits using charcoal. Then, learn the properties of the fast-drying and versatile medium of acrylics. Study form, edge, value and explore the use of different color palates. Students may work in acrylics or oil.
This class is offered for 1 teacher in-service credit. Please refer to the Nevada Department of Education's teacher licensing requirements.Instructor: Daniel Helzer
Class Begins: Monday February 27, 6:00PM - 9:00PM
Ages: 15 and Up / All Levels

- 6 - 8 canvas boards 12" x 15"
- Liquitex acrylic OR oil paints:

- Liquitex Gloss Medium and Varnish OR oil equivelent
- assorted acrylic brushes:
