Drawing As Idea
5 - 7 pm
Join this class to learn how to utilize drawing as a tool to unlock your imagination and communicate your ideas. Work with visiting artist, Scott Hudson, as he walks you through his course programed for storytellers and makers with engaging exercises in hand/eye/mind coordination, narrative development and drawing technique. All supplies will be provided.
Week 1: Hand, Eye, Mind. Exercises in hand/eye coordination and visualization.
Week 2: Storytelling. We will develop communicating an idea through storyboards. We will look at the storyboards of Alfred Hitchcock movies and graphic novels as examples to recount a memory, a dream, or an imagined narrative.
Week 3: Design. We will use drawing as a tool for design….an imagined piece of furniture, jewelry, a fantasy house or car. We will look at inventions of Leonardo, renderings of Frank Lloyd Wright, and automobile design….we might slip in some drawings of Ed “Big Daddy” Roth.
Week 4: Communication. We will develop drawing and Ideograms as an enhancement of written language. We will look at street art graffiti, Ancient illuminations such as the “Book of Kells”, and some corporate identity design.
Week 5: Critique: We will review what we accomplished through constructive, possitive feedback. Class participation is encouraged in a spirit of community.
