Introduction to Western Paper Marbling
This popular marbling workshop will introduce students marbling techniques on fabric that can be used for covering books and boxes. Students will begin the day by working on basic marbling skills. With the instructor’s guidance, they will work on new patterns with an eye for nuance. The main focus will be on marbling fabric to create book cloth, and techniques for other textile uses will also be discussed. At the end of the day, the instructor will demonstrate how to prepare pieces of marbled cloth for use in bookbinding. Students will leave with their own stack of 15 marbled fabric pieces. All materials provided with registration.

Intro to Textile Marbling: Marbled Baseball Hats
Witness this magical process that transfers the paint from the surface of the water to a baseball hat. In this 4-hour workshop, students will have the opportunity to marble 3 hats. Pietro will show students how to print on the baseball hats using an array of different patterns and colors that you can choose from. After some guided practice with some of your favorite colors, students will then have the opportunity to marble 3 beautiful hats.

Textile Marbling on Scarves
Witness this magical process that transfers the paint from the surface of the water to a silk scarf. In this one-day workshop, Pietro will show students how to print on silk scarves using an array of different patterns and colors that you can choose from. After some guided practice with some of your favorite colors, students will have the opportunity to paint 2 beautiful scarves.

Sewing 101: Learn Your Machine
Learn sewing machine basics with your machine. Bring in your recently serviced sewing machine and we will help you build a relationship starting with the basics. This class covers: threading the machine, threading the bobbin, making a bobbin, thread varieties, needle varieties and uses, foot selection, stitch varieties and purposes, steering techniques, ways to mend a hole on a sewing machine and sewing machine maintenance.
If you do not have a machine but are interested in learning, we do have a limited selection of machines for use.

Sewing: Christmas Stocking
Have a new addition to the family or want to replace your current stocking(s) with handmade unique ones? In this class, under the guidance of the instructor, students will work to create unique, personalized stocking(s) and will have the freedom to make the piece completely customizable to what you are looking to create.
Note: The Museum School will have a limited number of Singer Brilliant 6180 sewing machines for students to use but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.

Sewing: Halloween Costume Series
Are you making wings, a cape, accessories, or an entire outfit for someone special for Halloween? Bring in your Halloween costume projects and get assistance with the instructor from start to finish, or just to get over a difficult part in the pattern. If you do not have a pattern, but have an idea of what you want to make; the instructor will sit with the students and draft the pattern or make edits to a thrifted item. This class includes machine & hand sewing assistance, pattern making, drafting skills, and problem solving techniques.

Sewing: Autumn Leaves Quilted Table Runner or Placements
Create a stunning table runner or place mats that feature a patchwork design that gives each lovely leaf a textured look normally only found in nature. Under the direction of the instructor, students will learn how to create each individual section and then sew them all together if desired. This is a great way to use up scraps and this applique pattern will make a wonderful addition to your autumn table. This class will include free motion quilting techniques. Finished runner size is 12 1/2″ x 53″ or could be turned into individual place mats.

- fall colored scraps
- ½ yard fabric for sashing
- binding and stems
- (4) fat quarters of cream or tan fabrics for the background
- Large piece of fabric for backing (at least 18”x58”)
- Lite Heat Bond or other fusible applique product.
Sewing: Lavender Llama Hot/Cold Compress Plushy
Create your very own hot/cold compress that can be microwaved for warm comfort in the winter or freeze for instant relaxation in the summer. Under the direction of the instructor, students will learn how to sew the Llama pattern and then stuff the plushy compress with lavender, rice, flax seeds, corn, buckwheat or beans.

- 1/3 yard of fabric (“softies” flannel, cotton, minky for the body of the lama, – if using minky make sure bring a walking foot to class),
- 10” tan or gray wool (ears and legs)
- small scrap of white wool (nose/mouth)
- small scrap of black wool (eyes)
- scraps of 100% cotton batting (ears and legs)
- 2-2.5 cups of filler (rice, corn, beans, flax seeds, buckwheat etc.)
