Kids’ Corner: Intro to Visual Art

Students aged 7 – 11 will explore a variety of art forms and dive into the world of visual art. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will learn foundational skills related to drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to contemporary and pop artists known for their work in these mediums. The skills learned in this class will help students understand the basics for future artistic endeavors. All supplies and a mid-class snack are provided.

In this 4 week course, the instructor will take the kids on a journey into the world of artifacts while creating ceramic versions of their own. Instruction will encompass hand building, including slab, coil work and sculpture. In addition, students will learn about glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of the kiln. This will be a fun and educational class.  All works will be fired in the Museums’ kiln. Snack and materials are included.

Students will also have the opportunity to learn drawing fundamentals and techniques that can be applied to all forms of drawing. All materials and snack are provided.
