Monday – Friday, August 27 – 31 / 9 am – noon

Beginning and advanced students will enjoy this five-day technique-based class. Daily exercises will allow students to explore the use of sensitive and effective brush strokes using paint and medium to manipulate paint with a brush. Will include an exploration of tool use including brushes and the applications and use of a pallet knife to apply and carve paint to create texture and depth.

Inspired by the American and French Impressionists, students will use oil paint to explore color, light and shadow in this summer intensive. This series will explore brushwork techniques, cropped compositions, color breaking and mixing colors directly on canvas.

This course is a 3-day intensive study covering the use of color with emphasis on how seeing relates to color choices. Students will gain a good foundational working knowledge of how to mix and use color as it relates to making artwork. The class will be exposed to many color theories, which will be put into practice. Each lesson begins with the concepts to be covered, demonstration of the techniques, hands on experience.

Students will use oil paint to explore color, light and shadow in the style of the great American artist Maynard Dixon. Students will be introduced to oil painting techniques that utilize broad brush strokes and palette knife carving to blocking in space and build a dynamic composition while creating landscape paintings in oil. Student of all levels are welcome, though some oil painting experience is recommended.

In this intermediate to advanced level class, students will learn the basics of natural illustration drawing with a focus on summer succulents and mixed media (watercolor and prismacolor). Students will learn about many types of succulents, their natural habitats, and creatures whom interact or co-habitate with succulents. Students will create a final drawing of a chosen succulent in a natural environment. Succulent specimens will be provided to draw from life along with photo reference materials. *Basic understanding of watercolor and/or colored pencils techniques advised.

This class is designed for anyone who would like to explore the medium of watercolor without the commitment.  Learn techniques such as washes, glazing, wet on wet and much more.  Find out if watercolor is for you.  The class is great for beginners who would like to experiment with watercolor techniques in an instructive setting.
