Painting Intensive: Landscapes from Photographs in Oil or Acrylic
Working in oil or acrylic paint, students will explore value divisions in landscapes and the basics of brush sketching and massing. With these skills students will learn how to relate color to value and will gain a better understanding of identifying spatial cues in a landscape. Using foundational skills students can then explore under-painting, glazing and dry-brushing techniques.

Painting with the Loomis Grid: Building Strong Compositions
This class teaches fundamental painting techniques with a focus on composition using the Loomis grid. Students will learn to structure their artwork effectively by applying the grid to improve balance, proportion, and focal points. Through guided exercises, you’ll refine your understanding of shapes, values, and color harmony, developing more dynamic and well-composed paintings.

Paint Your Pet in Oils or Acrylic
In this one day class students will create a painting of their pet in just 5 hours! Working from photo reference, the instructor will guide students through texture painting techniques to help achieve the look of fur, feathers, scales, hair etc., and how to effectively create a successful composition of an animal. Students may use oil or acrylic paints for this class.

Trees in Watercolor II
Join this class to further develop your ability to capture different trees in watercolor. Building upon techniques from the previous class, students will focus on specific subjects such as blooming trees, weeping willow, fall foliage, and expressive, loosely rendered pine trees. You will also practice painting different types of tree trunks and explore a range of approaches to depicting large groupings of trees and mixed-species forests. For best results, especially when using the wet in wet technique, 100% cotton watercolor paper is highly recommended.

Trees in Watercolor I
Join this class to learn how to paint a variety of trees in watercolor. Students will begin with a brief exploration of how to mix your own greens. Using both wet in wet and wet on dry techniques, along with the lifting method, you will focus on painting a range of trees, including various types of coniferous and deciduous trees. Students will practice painting trees in perspective—from distant trees to those in the middle ground, as well as more detailed trees in the foreground. You will also work on painting individual trees and groups of trees in natural settings.
For best results, especially when using the wet in wet technique, 100% cotton watercolor paper is highly recommended.

Ammonites in Watercolor
Celebrate the exhibition, “Deep Time: Sea Dragons of Nevada” by painting a watercolor study of ammonites. In this class, students will explore and learn the techniques of how to reserve the white of the paper with masking fluid, wet in wet washes and wet in damp accents. Students will also have an understanding of how to mix neutral colors, utilizing salt and granulating pigments. 100% cotton paper is highly recommended for wet in wet approach.
