Kids’ Corner: Printmaking Techniques

Wednesdays, January 13 – February 10 / 3:30 – 5:30 pm

Young artists will enjoy exploring printmaking techniques in this fun after-school series. Students will create multi-sided stamp blocks, reduction prints and mono prints. All materials and a snack are included with registration.

Ages: 7 – 12 / all levels

Art High: Portrait Painting from Photographs

Saturdays, April 9 – May 7 / 9:30 am – noon

Teens will explore portrait-painting techniques while using sourced photographic imagery as point of reference. Course lessons will be designed around acrylic painting techniques.  if students are interested in working in oil, please e-mail claire.munoz@nevadaart.org for suggested supplies.

Art High: Introduction to Photography

Saturdays, February 20 – March 19 / 9:30 am – noon

Teens ages 13 – 18 will enjoy exploring photography techniques and concepts in this five-week course. Instruction will include basic camera functions, composition, lighting and processing.

Supply List: Digital camera with manual control settings (NOT a cell phone or tablet camera).

Art High: Drawing the Figure

Saturdays, January 16 – February 13 / 9:30 am – noon 

Teens ages 13 – 18 will enjoy exploring basic figure sketching techniques through line, value, shape and composition. The first class will explore basic drawing techniques while working from a mannequin, the remaining classes will include drawing sessions with a live posed model dressed in swim or athletic attire.

Required Supplies: Students to supply a 18 x 24″ Newsprint Pad. A variety of drawing materials will be provided.

Día de los Muertos: Sugar Skull Workshop (4 pm)

Thursday, October 22 / 4 – 5 pm

Learn about the Mexican tradition of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) and create and decorate colorful sugar skulls! This centuries old tradition honors and celebrates the souls of those who have passed. Each student will receive two pre-molded sugar skulls to decorate and take home.

Gingerbread Workshop (6 pm)

Thursday, December 10 / 6 – 7 pm

Decorate a festive gingerbread house to take home and enjoy for the holidays. Kids will have fun frosting their houses and embellishing them with an assortment of candies to create that perfect winter scene. Dress for a mess!

Young artists will enjoy creating viewing both contemporary and historical references of animals in art. Drawing from the Museum’s exhibitions, students will explore basic painting and drawing techniques in this fun after-school series. All materials and a snack are included with registration. Note: there will be no class on Wednesday, November 25.

Baby Painting (10:30 am)

Sunday, November 8 / 10:30 – 11:15 am

Bring your baby or toddler and go beyond finger-painting by blobbing, smushing, and smearing colors with hands and feet! Witness baby’s first painting with no mess at home. Your wee one will make a creative keepsake for the family to cherish. Dress for a mess! *Supply list.
