Virtual Educator Evening: Understanding Ubuntu with Dr. Donald Easton-Brooks

Ubuntu is a South African term that means humanity, “I am because we are,” or “humanity towards others.” Other interpretations are “society gives human beings their humanity” or “to become as one by looking out for one another.” Educators are invited to join us in a discussion led by Dr. Donald Easton-Brooks, Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Nevada, Reno, as we identify ways in which “Ubuntu” can help lay a foundation that supports inclusive learning environments.

Virtual Educator Evening with Artist Cara Romero

Nevada’s educators are invited to hear from artist Cara Romero. Romero is a contemporary fine art photographer and an enrolled citizen of the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe. She was raised between contrasting settings: the rural Chemehuevi reservation in Mojave Desert, CA and the urban sprawl of Houston, TX. Romero’s identity informs her photography, a blend of fine art and editorial photography, shaped by years of study and a visceral approach to representing Indigenous and non-Indigenous cultural memory, collective history, and lived experiences from a Native American female perspective.
