Painting: Open Studio

Students will enjoy developing their painting techniques and skills in this observational open studio class. Weekly subject matter will rotate between nude and clothed models and still-life. Each class will begin with brief instruction followed by an open studio format painting class. Students may use acrylic or oil paint. Dry media is also welcome.

Sundays, August 8 – 22

Painting Intensive: Landscapes from Photographs in Oil or Acrylic

Working in oil paint, students will explore value divisions in landscapes and the basics of brush sketching and massing. With these skills students will learn how to relate color to value and will gain a better understanding of identifying spatial cues in a landscape. Using foundational skills students can then explore under-painting, glazing and dry-brushing techniques.

Painting Intensive: Portrait Painting in Oil or Acrylic

Students will be introduced to portrait painting techniques in this weekend intensive. Instructor will cover such topics as using a two-color palette, value scales, keying a painting, as well as, using both line and mass to create a portrait. Photos will be used as reference for this Saturday’s class and provided by the instructor. A model will pose for Sunday’s class. Students may use acrylic or oil paint.

Learn the basics of the Procreate app while using an iPad Pro. The class will be focused on what each tool does and how to utilize them to create finished digital illustrations, typography and short form animations.

NOTE: iPad Pro and Procreate software will be provided for students to use during class time.

Summer Camp: Digital Art and Illustration

Kids ages 7 – 12 will have fun playing on the Museum’s iPad Pros as they work on story-boarding, character design and animation in this after school series. Students will also have an opportunity to explore and sketch using the iPads in the Museum’s galleries while looking for inspiration for their own work. A snack and all materials are included with registration.
