Bristlecone Pine in Ink and Watercolor
Bristlecones are a wonderful subject for both realistic and impressionistic watercolors. Using paint and ink, students will learn to capture the essence of these wonders of the natural world. Some watercolor experience is recommended.

- Basic Watercolor Kit and pallet
- Watercolor Paper, 140 lb cold press (suggest Arches or Strathmore 400 series, student choice on size)
- No 8 or No 6 pointed watercolor brush
- Micron black ink pens 005 or 01
- Sketch Pad
- Drawing pencil and kneaded eraser
- Two water containers

Butterflies in Ink and Watercolor
Learn to combine the texturing of ink and the vibrancy of watercolor to create illustrations while focusing on butterflies. Explore the tradition of scientific illustration while referencing specimens and photographs in this watercolor workshop. No experience necessary.

- Tablet of 140# Watercolor paper (Casson, Arches, or Strathmore). NOTE: Paper can be purchased from instructor during class for $2 per sheet.
- Small round 10 well pallet with plastic lid
- Sketch tablet or paper
- Basic watercolor set (Reeves or Richardson set of 12 is fine, or your own set)
- 2 drawing or mechanical pencils, and a rubber eraser
- Fine point (005) black ink pen, MUST be waterproof
- Two plastic water containers
- Roll of paper towels

Learn the techniques to create luscious and loose impressionistic paintings of bouquets. The class will include demonstrations in “dropping paint,” silhouetting and negative painting. Some watercolor experience is recommended for this class.

- 4 eye droppers
- 140 lb cold press Arches watercolor paper 9” x 12” or larger (Artist grade watercolor paper such as Arches is necessary for this technique)
- Your watercolor pallet
- No 6 and No 8 round watercolor brush
- ½” or 1” flat brush
- Graphite or mechanical pencil
- Kneaded eraser
- 2 plastic water containers
- Roll of paper towels

Watercolor: Open Studio
This intermediate level open studio class is designed for returning students and experienced students. Students should have a personal work in progress to work towards completing in this fun and social series. Each class will begin with a short lesson addressing a challenge or technique followed by open studio time to continue work on personal projects. Instructor will be on hand to assist with challenges, offer critique, instruction, and encouragement.

Supply list: Please bring any supplies you own for your specific project. A recommended basic supply list is as follows:
- Watercolors: Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue, Lemon Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Magenta, Sap Green, New Gamboge, Yellow Ochre. (Cotman or Van Gogh is fine; Windsor Newton is excellent)
- Your personal watercolor pallet
- 2 HB Pencils
- Watercolor Brushes: #6 & #10 Round (Silver/Black brand is recommended and available at Nevada Fine Arts)
- Pad of Arches 140# cold press watercolor paper
- Roll of paper towels

Botanical Illustration: Winter Gourds
Learn the techniques of botanical illustration to capture the bounty of winter gourds in watercolor. Students with watercolor experience and those new to watercolor are welcome.

Art High: Clay Intensive – Hand Building and Wheel Throwing Techniques
Teens ages 13 – 18 will have fun exploring the tactile nature of clay. Instruction will encompass basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. In this 5 day intensive for teens, students will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. This will be a fun and educational class. All works will be fired in the Museums’ kiln. All materials are included.

Holiday Cards: Wood Type Printing on the Press
Letterpress print your holiday cards using antique wood and metal type on Katherine’s Vandercook letterpress. During this fun day at Katherine’s studio, Meridian Press, you will learn the basics of letterpress printing: setting type, locking it up in the press, mixing ink and completing an edition of up to 25 two-color greeting cards. Envelopes will also be included.
Please bring an apron and some ideas for holiday cards. We will also look at at plenty of samples for ideas during class.

Gingerbread Workshop (6 pm)
Decorate a festive gingerbread house to take home and enjoy for the holidays. Kids will have fun frosting their houses and embellishing them with an assortment of candies to create that perfect winter scene. Dress for a mess!
