Landscapes in Watercolor
Thursdays, October 20 – November 3 / 10 am – 2 pm
Learn the skills used in creating beautiful watercolor landscapes in this three-week series. Students will use photo reference and will explore the various qualities of watercolor. While this class is open to students of all levels, some watercolor experience is recommended.
Supply list:
- Watercolor Kit to include the following colors: Cobalt Blue, Phthalo Blue, Lemon Yellow, Alizarin Crimson, Magenta, Sap Green, New Gamboge, Yellow Ochre. (Cotman or Van Gogh is fine; Windsor Newton is excellent)
- Plastic studio pallet with at least 10 paint wells.
- 2 HB Pencils
- Watercolor Brushes: #6 & #10 Round (Silver/Black brand is recommended and available at Nevada Fine Arts) and 1/2″ or 1″ flat brush
- Pad of Arches 140# cold press watercolor paper. (Single pieces can be purchased from the instructor during class for $2 each)
- Roll of paper towels
- 2 Plastic water containers.

Summer Intensive: Tapestry Weaving
Tuesday, June 28 – Thursday, June 30 / 9 am – noon
Students learn the basics of weaving on Day 1. On Day 2 & 3, students will work towards the completion of a sampler and a small wall hanging (4″ x 10″). Registration includes a $35 material fee which includes the pattern, yarns and a lap loom for the students to keep.

Mosaics 101: Introduction to Mosaics
Saturday, September 24 / 10 am – 2 pm
and Sunday, September 25 / 10 am – 12 pm
In this two-day class, students will learn the basics of mosaics, including techniques, design and grouting. Using various materials, students will be guided through a 10” x 10” mosaic mirror project. All materials provided but students may bring other objects (stones, jewels, beads, etc.) to incorporate into their piece. This class is intended for those unfamiliar or new to mosaics but all skill levels are welcome.

Linocuts: Botanical Blossoms
Saturday, July 23 / 10:30 am – 4:30 pm
Learn to carve simple, beautiful patterns or images in linoleum and print them using Japanese hand printing techniques. The botanical images we’ll be working with in this class lend themselves especially well to this versatile printmaking process. Found images can be transformed into vibrantly layered compositions using Katherine’s easy transfer and carving techniques. Everyone will leave with a small edition of botanical prints. You’ll learn all about the tools, techniques and resources you need to be begin linoleum carving and printing at home. *Supply list.

Girls’ Night Out: Experiments in Abstract Painting

Students are invited to tap back in to their creativity in a fun and relaxing environment. This is an inspirational class designed for beginners and painters of all levels who want to learn basic techniques for creating beautiful and dynamic abstract art pieces. Students will learn to pick a complimentary and bold color palette, lay down a rich background for their painting, and use a variety of brush strokes and mixed media techniques to add forms in an appealing composition to their work. Bring old friends, meet new ones and have a great night over a glass (or two!) of wine and a fun project designed for all skill levels.

Studio Photography: Portraiture
Thursdays, August 18 – September 1 / 6 – 9 pm
Explore portrait photography in a professional studio environment. Students will work with live models and will experiment with various qualities of light, including natural and artificial, framing and composition and variations in the photographic environment. Students will examine the work of photographers such as Arnold Newman, Karsh, Platon and others. NOTE: Classes are taught off site at Jeff Ross’ Studio.

Ages: Adult (15+) / Some Camera Experience (students must be familiar and comfortable with their DSLR camera settings)
Required Supplies: Digital slr with manual control for shutter speed and aperture, laptop or home computer with image editing software, flash drive to transport images.
Art High: Sketching the Figure
Saturdays, August 27 – September 24 / 9:30 am – noon
Teens ages 13 – 18 will enjoy exploring basic figure sketching techniques through line, value, shape and composition. The first class will explore basic drawing techniques while working from a mannequin, the remaining classes will include drawing sessions with a live posed model dressed in swim or athletic attire.

Required Supplies: Students to supply a 18 x 24″ Newsprint Pad. A variety of drawing materials will be provided.
Summer Camp: Fun with Clay
Monday – Friday, July 18 – 22 / 8:30 am – noon
Kids ages 7 – 12 will have fun exploring the tactile nature of clay. Instruction will encompass basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. In this 5 day camp, students will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. This will be a fun and educational class. All works will be fired in the Museums’ kiln. Snack and materials are included.

Life Drawing: Open Studio
Thursdays, September 8 – 29 / 1 – 4 pm
Improve your life drawing skills and explore a variety of media while working freely from a nude model in this popular open studio class. The instructor will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction upon request. Both male and female models will be posed and drawn.

The following are suggested basic supplies – all media are welcome, so please bring whatever supplies you need for whichever media you are using.
– Drawing board – 20”x 26” or larger (light-weight masonite works best)
– Newsprint pad – 18”x 24” – rough surface recommended
– Bull dog clamps or similar to attach pad to board
– Medium and Support Items:
– Vine charcoal, thin and fat pieces
– Choice of conte crayon, 6B graphite pencil or sticks, china marker, compressed charcoal, carbon pencils, or any suitable medium for drawing on newsprint
– Large kneaded eraser
– Pink pearl eraser
– Portable pencil sharpener or utility knife (best for soft/medium pencils)
– Clean small rags
– Sandpaper pad for sharpening drawing mediums
– Stumps for blending (optional)
