Children ages 4 to 7 will have fun learning Spanish through play, music, games, books and art. Each day, we will begin with circle time and end our class with an original art activity.

Book Arts: Italic Calligraphy

Tuesdays, March 1 – 29 / 6 – 9 pm

Explore Italic’s fluency and versatility with pen and ink. In this five-week class we will construct formal Italic minuscules, majuscules and numerals. In addition to presentation and practice of these elegant and useful letter-forms, we will discuss tools, media and papers. For beginners and those that would like to renew your Italic hand!

Supply List:

  • 1 ½ and 3mm Brause pen nibs and pen holder
  • Higgins Eternal Ink (black)
  • Strathmore 300 Series Sketch Pad with tape top, 9×12”

Wednesdays, January 13 – February 17 / 6 – 9 pm

Create decorative and functional pottery in this six-week class designed for the beginner as well as those who have taken intermediate pottery classes in the past.  Students will learn how to work with clay in both hand building, and wheel-throwing techniques. Finishing methods such as decorating, stamping, painting, and staining will be introduced as well as the discussion and practice of firing and glazing of clay works. Stoneware clay will be used and cone 6 and cone 06 glazes will be available.  All firings will be done by Museum in an electric kiln. All materials are provided.

Kid Play in Clay

Saturday, February 6 / 11 am – 12 pm

Kids ages 3 – 6 will enjoy playing in clay with their parents as they create Valentine’s Day inspired keepsake treasures while exploring the tactile qualities of clay. Children will create hearts with hand prints, heart ornaments and a heart shaped spoon holder in this quick and messy class.

Preschool Play in Clay

Winter Break Camp: Fun with Clay

Monday – Friday, January 4 – 8 / 8:30 am – noon

Kids ages 7 – 12 will have fun exploring the tactile nature of clay.  Instruction will encompass basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture.  In this 5 day camp, students will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of kiln. This will be a fun and educational class.  All works will be fired in the Museums’ kiln. Snack and materials are included.

Kids’ Corner: Animal Illustration

Wednesdays, April 6 – May 4 / 3:30 – 5:30 pm

Young artists will enjoy exploring both contemporary and historical references of animals in art. Referencing the Museum’s exhibition “The Horse,” special attention will be paid to learning how to draw the horse.  All materials and a snack are included with registration.

Kids’ Corner: Experiments in Watercolor

Wednesdays, February 17 – March 16 / 3:30 – 5:30 pm

Young artists will enjoy exploring watercolor painting techniques in this fun after-school series. Students will work on combining materials (like salt and wax) to create texture in their paintings, will play with a variety of reference materials and will enjoy a fun an interactive classroom environment as they learn and explore together. All materials and a snack are included with registration.
