Tuesdays, February 3 – 17 / 6 – 9 pm

In this three-part workshop, learn basic drawing and multimedia techniques to create unique illustrations of animals such as birds, mammals, and sea life. We will look at a number of artists who incorporate animals into art and will learn a variety of mixed media techniques to produce a small series of artwork. Students will learn to draw animals, work with a variety of materials including decorative papers, photocopies, pencil, ink, wood, and more.

Required Supplies:

• Sketchbook or sketchpad 8 x 10 to 11 x 14 in size with 65lb or heavier paper (multi-media sketchbooks will be great for this class) 
• Drawing pencils- mechanical art/drafting good too
• Eraser 
• Fine point black ink pen (Sakura Pigma Microns (very fine- like a .1) are the best) 
• Students are encouraged to bring additional paper (collage, and decorative), photocopies, or other items to use in their pieces.

Sunday, January 11 / 10 am – 4 pm

This workshop will explore different collage and mixed media transfer approaches for use in journal books and small art works. Techniques you will learn include gelli-plate prints, gel skin transfers, building backgrounds with ephemera and acrylic paint; and using Xerox transfers as a source material to draw and paint with.

• Your Journal Book – good to have one with thick paper (or loose sheets of heavy paper)
• Matte or Gloss Heavy Acrylic medium 
• Inexpensive crafting brushes in various sizes 
• Gelli Arts Printing Plate (6”x6” or 8”x10”) 
• X-acto knife
• China Marker
• Uni-Ball white pen 
• Fine-point pigment pens or markers for detail work and writing
• Craft Matte acrylic paints – the inexpensive ones in the bottles (at Walmart they are around $1.50) in white, cream, and your favorite colors 
• Images in color and black and white that are printed out on a laser printer or color-copied
• Ephemera items: magazine images, decorative papers, copies of old letters, newspaper articles, tickets, receipts, junk mail, fabric pieces, different tapes like the decorative ones found in the scrapbooking section of stores
• A old credit card or gift card

Saturday, January 24 / 10:30 am – 4:30 pm

Great collage combines elements of both structure and free association. Using Katherine’s legendary paper collection and a collaging technique guaranteed to produce fabulous compositions, we will create an edition of collaborative handmade books. In this fun class, you’ll learn ways to both “banish your inner editor” releasing creative play, and then to reign it in, creating a balanced composition.

Tuesdays, December 2 – December 16 / 3:30 – 5:30 pm

Teens ages 13 – 18 learn to add dimension to their artwork by learning how to make and use the grayscale and valuescale in both graphite and acrylic paint. All materials are included with registration.

Meditation is a technique for inner peace and wellness. Meditation can be a cornerstone of a healthy, happy, productive life. Everyone can do it. This class is taught by an expert who has over 30 years of experience helping people just like you. It does not require concentration or any special skill. You will learn different techniques each week that you can take home and use on your own. All are welcome, from first-timers to advanced students.

Saturdays, February 7 and 14 / 10 am – 2 pm

Adobe Lightroom is quickly becoming the go to application for photographers of any experience level, but so many photographers are not using the application to the fullest potential. There are also features of Lightroom that are best left to other applications, and those work arounds will be shown in class. From tethered shooting to advanced Develop module techniques, this class with get new Lightroom users up and running, and advanced users taking advantage of features that will save time, and reduce frustration.

A laptop is not necessary for this class, but having one will not hurt, as students can work along with the instructor during class. Files for the class will take up 6-8 GB of space, and students should have that amount of space free on their computers if they want to work along with the instructor.

Wednesdays, January 7 – 28 / 6 – 9 pm

Improve your life drawing skills and explore a variety of media while working freely from a nude model in this popular open studio class. The instructor will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction upon request. Both male and female models will be posed and drawn. Instructor:

The following are suggested basic supplies – all media are welcome, so please bring whatever supplies you need for whichever media you are using.

• Drawing board – 20”x 26” or larger (light-weight masonite works best)
• Newsprint pad – 18”x 24” – rough surface recommended 
• Bull dog clamps or similar to attach pad to board
• Medium and Support Items: 
• Vine charcoal, thin and fat pieces 
• Choice of: conte crayon, 6B graphite pencil or sticks, china marker, compressed charcoal, carbon pencils, any other suitable medium for drawing on newsprint 
• Large kneaded eraser 
• Pink pearl eraser 
• Portable pencil sharpener or utility knife (best for soft/medium pencils) 
• Clean small rags 
• Sandpaper pad for sharpening drawing mediums
• Stumps for blending (optional)

Tuesday, December 2 / 6 – 9 pm

Create a variety of image transfers in this class where various methods will be taught. Using black and white as well as color photocopies, create image transfers on to paper, canvas, wood, and more using gel transfer and packing tape transfer methods.

black and white toner based photocopies and color photocopies (must be toner based. inkjet prints will not work) 
sketchbook/moleskin/journal (any size and moleskin accordion books work great for this) 
magazines with images you like
small wood panels or other things you might want to print on/decorate (wood/canvas/paper all work well)

Thursday, December 4 / 4 – 5 pm

Decorate a festive gingerbread house to take home and enjoy for the holidays. Kids will have fun frosting their houses and embellishing them with an assortment of candies to create that perfect winter scene. Dress for a mess!
