Figure Painting
Improve your life painting skills and explore a variety of paint media while working freely from a nude model in this popular figure painting class. The instructor will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction upon request and is a perfect class for beginner to advanced artists. Both male and female models will be placed in short and long poses.

Introduction to Sewing Clothes: Button Up Shirt
In this 5-week course, students will work with the instructor on learning button up shirt design and fitting. Over the duration of this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of shirt design, fitting techniques, reading a pattern, sewing a button hole, hem and more! The pattern will be provided.
Note: The Museum School has Singer Brilliance 6180 brand sewing machines, tools and fabric for students to use but please feel free to bring your own machine and supplies if you’d like.

Intro to Printmaking: Linoleum Block Prints
Contemporary linoleum block printing is an exciting, economical, and accessible alternative to traditional woodblock printmaking. Linoleum blocks can be easily printed at home with little set-up. Students will learn to transfer an image to a block, use tools to carve, register multiple layers, use a press, and print by hand. Class time will be dedicated to demonstrations of techniques, and ample working time with one-on-one instruction. Students will be able to use their blocks to create holiday cards or work to be hung on the wall! No printmaking experience is necessary! Students should bring in photographs, images from magazines, or drawings for inspiration. All other materials such as inks, paper, blocks, and carving tools are provided and included with your registration.

Printmaking: 2 Color Linoleum Block Prints
Contemporary linoleum block printing is an exciting, economical, and accessible alternative to traditional woodblock printmaking. Students will learn to create two color prints, hone carving skills, register multiple layers, use a press, and print by hand. This more involved process will require students to have experience with single color printmaking. Students must have taken Intro to Printmaking: Linoleum Block Prints. Class time will be dedicated to demonstrations of techniques, and ample working time with one-on-one instruction. Students should bring in photographs for inspiration or choose from the instructors pre-made ideas. All other materials such as inks, paper, blocks, and carving tools are provided and included with your registration.

Book Arts: Intro to Book Binding
Learn how to make your own books and journals in this hands-on introduction to bookbinding workshop. Starting with a brief introduction to the form of the book, students will learn how to identify different parts of the book and plan out materials and content. Using basic bookbinding tools and techniques, students will learn 3-4 different binding structures and leave with finished models that can be used as journals and sketchbooks or as reference models for creating your own at home. These skills will provide a foundation that can be built upon to create more advanced structures. All materials and tools will be provided and no prior bookbinding experience necessary!

Book Arts: Accordions
In this workshop, we’ll be exploring several different accordion fold book structures, such as the Flag Book, Panorama Book, Tunnel Book, and more! Starting with the basic accordion fold, students will learn how to use the accordion fold as the basis for several different non-traditional and sculptural book structures, opening new creative possibilities in creating artist books. All materials and tools will be provided and no prior bookbinding experience necessary!

Painting Intensive: Landscapes from Photographs in Oil or Acrylic
Working in oil or acrylic paint, students will explore value divisions in landscapes and the basics of brush sketching and massing. With these skills students will learn how to relate color to value and will gain a better understanding of identifying spatial cues in a landscape. Using foundational skills students can then explore under-painting, glazing and dry-brushing techniques.
