Watercolor Portraiture
In this class, students will learn how to render the human face as you study its anatomy, including bone structure, muscle tone and the relationship between facial features. Students will work with the instructor to learn and understand basic watercolor principles and techniques such as washes and shading to achieve a realistic likeness. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist looking to refine your techniques, this class offers a comprehensive exploration of portrait painting.

- A set of Watercolor brushes. Minimum of three – one large round wash brush, one medium and one fine.

The Art of Meditation

It can also have a profound effect on your sense of purpose and contentment in our turbulent world.
Explore the various styles of meditation with an expert with over 40 years experience. Everyone can learn these simple meditations. You will be given a different technique each week which you can then use on your own. All are welcome, from first-timers to advanced students.

The Art of Mindful Writing
Writing can be an important part of mindfulness practice, whether we are talking about meditation, personal development, experiential learning, or exploring the world around us. Mindfulness – paying attention, being aware – can enrich writing for aspiring writers, students, and more practiced authors. In this class, students will have an opportunity to try out a variety of writing tools and experiences to see what resonates. Students will also leave this class with several starts in their journals, several ideas to help move writing forward, and several ways to be as mindful as possible as one writes, which will help writing be more rewarding and rich. All supplies will be provided along with a journal for each student.

Participants will walk away from the course with an edition of their own multi-layered screen prints with one-of-a-kind designs.

Introduction to Sewing Clothes: Button Up Shirt
In this 4 week course, students will work with the instructor on learning button up shirt design and fitting. Over the duration of this course, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamentals of shirt design, fitting techniques, reading a pattern, sewing a button hole, hem and more! The pattern will be provided.
Note: The Museum School has Singer Brilliance 6180 brand sewing machines, tools and fabric for students to use but please feel free to bring your own machine and supplies if you’d like.

In this class, students will learn about the aesthetics of collage, melding the ideas of reality and fiction as the instructor guides them through the process of creating their own piece using everyday materials.
Supplies are provided, but feel free to bring any materials you’d like to incorporate into your collage piece.

Clay: Earthworks
Create decorative and functional pottery in this six-week class designed for the beginner as well as those who have taken intermediate pottery classes in the past. Students will learn how to work with clay in both hand building, and wheel-throwing techniques. Finishing methods such as decorating, stamping, painting, and staining will be introduced as well as the discussion and practice of firing and glazing of clay works. Stoneware clay will be used and cone 6 and cone 06 glazes will be available. All firings will be done by the museum in an electric kiln. All materials are provided.

Long Pose Figure in Any Medium
In this class students will work from a live, nude model, and a single pose for the entire 4 hour session. Long pose figure drawing gives students the time to develop a drawing beyond a gesture, and focus on more accurate measurements, as well as taking a deeper dive into value. Feel free to bring in any drawing or painting mediums for this class. There will be materials in the classroom for students to use. This class runs like an open studio, and the instructor will be present to give as much or as little instruction as each student requests.
