Portrait Drawing

Improve your portrait drawing skills and explore a variety of media while working freely from a model. This drawing class is open to students using any drawing media they are most comfortable with. The instructor is well versed in all drawing mediums and will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction through demonstration and upon request. Both male and female models will be posed and drawn. Please bring in any drawing media you have and the Museum School will have additional drawing materials for students to try out.

Introduction to Screen Printing

This course is an introductory exploration of screen printing using paper stencils. Screen printing is a fast and easy way to create everything from fields of color to detailed and intricate designs – the possibilities are endless. In this course, students will learn about screen maintenance, printing process and how to care for printing tools and supplies. Participants will walk away from the course with an edition of their own multi-layered screen prints with one-of-a-kind designs.

Introduction to Silver Smithing: Bracelets

In this hands-on workshop, students will cut copper wire to length and transform it into a cuff bracelet through a range of foundational silversmithing techniques. Skills covered include straightening, cutting, hammering, annealing, soldering, and forming, along with proper use of pliers, files, and sandpaper. Participants will also set a stone into a sterling silver bezel cup, creating a cohesive piece that complements the Beginning Silversmithing pendant and earring classes. This class is ideal for students ready to gain confidence and refine their metalworking skills while creating a wearable work of art. All supplies are provided.

*Note – There will be a 30 minute break for lunch.

Introduction to Silver Smithing: Rings

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of silversmithing as you create your own custom ring. Guided step-by-step, you’ll measure and cut metal, then hammer it to fit your exact finger size. You’ll also construct and solder a bezel setting, carefully securing a stone of your choice to your ring. To finish, you’ll add your personal touch with a brushed, polished, or patinated surface—resulting in a one-of-a-kind piece of wearable art.

*Note – There will be a 30 minute break for lunch.

Book Arts: Articulated Binding – An Indestructible Cover

An indestructible cover, inspired by Italy’s 1970’s solution to the Yellow Pages in public phone booths, this 360-degree flexible binding offers many advantages because it bends and does not break! It offers visual and tactile delight, employing strips of articulated boards and marbled fabric. In this workshop, instructor Pietro Accardi will instruct students in the art of this rare binding technique. Students will create a large and small articulated blank journal that can beautifully withstand the ravages of time. All materials provided.

Not only is finger painting tons of fun, it is also an excellent feeling (kinesthetic) experience and is fantastic for the development of all the big and small muscles in your growing child’s fingers, arms, shoulders, neck and back. Finger painting is wonderful for the development of color recognition, experimentation and color mixing and is terrific for developing creativity.

Dress for a mess! Messy play for babies and toddlers is crucial to healthy sensory development. Messy activities provide important foundational building blocks, sensory experiences and muscle and brain growth, all of which prepare children for later success and learning.

Ceramics: Hand Building

Unleash your creativity in this hands-on ceramic hand-building class designed for both beginners and intermediate students. Explore the fundamental techniques of pinch, coil, and slab construction as you transform raw clay into expressive vessels and sculptural forms. Through guided demonstrations and individualized instruction, you’ll learn how to shape, refine, and assemble your pieces, as well as discover surface techniques and glazing methods to enhance your finished work. All materials are provided.
