Kids’ Corner: Intro to Visual Art
Students aged 7 – 11 will explore a variety of art forms and dive into the world of visual art. Under the guidance of the instructor, students will learn foundational skills related to drawing, painting, collage and sculpture. Throughout this course, students will be introduced to contemporary and pop artists known for their work in these mediums. The skills learned in this class will help students understand the basics for future artistic endeavors. All supplies and a mid-class snack are provided.

Mastering the Elements of the Landscape: Seascapes in Oil
To paint the landscape well, the artist must master the various elements of it. This class will focus on the painting a variety of seascapes and the unique lighting situations, rhythmic movement of the water and drama that the ocean presents. Students who have taken the Landscape Basics class will benefit, but it is not a prerequisite. Students will complete three or four seascape projects in this class.

- Thinner: Weber Turpenoid (pint) or similar artist’s grade odorless mineral spirits
- Medium: M. Graham Walnut Oil (4oz), Silicoil cleaning jar or other small glass jar with sealable lid (for thinner), Small can such as olive can (for medium)
- Brushes: Synthetic Brights OR
- Filberts: Silverbrush Bristlon #2, #4, and #10 Or Connoisseur Pure Synthetic, #2, #4, and #10 Or any quality hog bristle in those sizes if the student already owns their own brushes.

Beginning Oil Painting – A Simple Approach for Rapid Success
Quickly gain basic oil painting skills with this simple approach – start creating your own original art with confidence. This course simplifies the complexities of oil painting alleviating the fears and frustrations experienced by many beginners. This course is designed to equip you with the skills and know-how to create your very own, original painting and to begin your artistic journey painting many more! By the end of the course, you’ll have painted your very own, original oil painting. You’ll be learning how to gather and compose your own references and how to use a simple, repeatable process to execute a painting from start to finish.

Book Arts: Articulated Binding – An Indestructible Cover
An indestructible cover, inspired by Italy’s 1970’s solution to the Yellow Pages in public phone booths, this 360-degree flexible binding offers many advantages because it bends and does not break! It offers visual and tactile delight, employing strips of articulated boards and marbled fabric. In this workshop, instructor Pietro Accardi will instruct students in the art of this rare binding technique. Students will create a large and small articulated blank journal that can beautifully withstand the ravages of time. All materials provided.

European Marbling on Fabric and Binding in the Northern Italian Tradition
This one day workshop will take students through Western marbling techniques on fabric and then construct a book wrapped in their own marbled cloth. Students will begin with the introduction of marbling on fabric and working with the instructors, they will develop new patterns with an eye for nuance. The primary focus will be on marbling fabric to create book cloth and techniques for other textile uses will also be discussed. Using the marbled fabric they created, students will create book cloth to use on the cover of the book they will bind. The instructor will teach his unique binding style based on methods used in contemporary Northern Italy. Each student will leave with a handbound book covered in fabric they patterned and marbled. All materials provided.

Young Artist Series: Digital Art and Illustration
Teens ages 12 – 15 will explore the basics of Procreate on the Museum’s iPad Pros as they work on storyboarding, character design and animation in this after school series. Students will also have the opportunity to learn drawing fundamentals and techniques that can be applied to all forms of drawing. All materials and snack are provided.

DSLR Photography 101: A Beginners Guide
In this introductory photography class, students will learn about the basic functions with DSLR cameras. This will include, aperture, shutter speed, composition, light metering and how to get the correct exposure for the image you want to capture. Students will need to bring a DSLR camera with one lens to the class.

iPhone Photography: Macro
Learn to shoot professional quality macro photos using your iPhone. With the fast-growing quality of cell phone cameras photography has become a much more accessible form of art. This class will go over the fundamentals of macro photography, lighting and an editing workflow specific to the iPhone software, as well as printing 1-2 4×6 images directly from your phone. Although this class is based around the iPhone software other smartphones are welcomed as the fundamentals of photography will still apply.

Intro to Needle Felting: Elfin’ Fun
Did you know that elves originate from Germanic folklore and are known to be mystical and mischievous? Join this workshop and have fun making an adorable lil’ elf, perfect to hang, sit on a shelf, or give as a gift during the upcoming holiday season. In this workshop, the instructor will cover the basics of needle felting, while you learn to create these three-dimensional unique elves with fun little faces.. This course is perfect for the beginner or more advanced student. All materials will be provided.

Design & Sew: Christmas Stockings
In this 3 week course students will learn how to make their own custom christmas stockings. The instructor will guide the class through the design process and help bring students’ unique ideas to life. Students will be able to make 2 – 4 stockings and please bring your choice fabric to class as there will be limited options.
Note: The Museum School has Singer Brilliance 6180 brand sewing machines, tools and some fabric for students to use but please feel free to bring your own machine and supplies if you’d like.
