Life Drawing: Open Studio (at the Holland Project)

Class Meets: Wednesdays, September 3 – 17, 2014

Class Meets at the Holland Project – 140 Vesta Street, Reno

Improve your life drawing skills and explore a variety of media while working freely from a nude model in this popular open studio class. The instructor will be present to coordinate class and offer instruction upon request. Both male and female models will be posed and drawn.

Instructor: Jerry Stinson

Ages: 18 and up / All levels

Suggested Supplies:
The following are suggested basic supplies – all media are welcome, so please bring whatever supplies you need for whichever media you are using.
– Drawing board – 20”x 26” or larger (light-weight masonite works best)
– Newsprint pad – 18”x 24” – rough surface recommended
– Bull dog clamps or similar to attach pad to board
Medium and Support Items:
– Vine charcoal, thin and fat pieces
– Choice of conte crayon, 6B graphite pencil or sticks, china marker, compressed charcoal, carbon pencils, or any suitable medium for drawing on newsprint
– Large kneaded eraser
– Pink pearl eraser
– Portable pencil sharpener or utility knife (best for soft/medium pencils)
– Clean small rags
– Sandpaper pad for sharpening drawing mediums
– Stumps for blending (optional)

Art Mash: Open Studio Sessions

Draw, paint, play! Enjoy a three hour open studio session with a live model. These bi-monthly sessions allows artists of all levels working in any variety of wet or dry materials to enjoy the reference of a live model in an open studio format. Session will be coordinated by artist, designer and Museum School instructor, Dan Helzer. Participants can work at their own pace and a small class size will allow for mobility and individual input on model pose, attire, etc. Models will be nude on the 1st Sunday and clothed on the 3rd Sunday. Pre-registration is recommended to secure a spot in the class, though day-of registration can be taken at the front desk (space permitting).

Studio Photography: Portraiture

Class Meets: Wednesdays, April 23 – May 7, 2014

Explore portrait photography in a professional studio environment. Students will work with live models and will experiment with various qualities of light, including natural and artificial, framing and composition and variations in the photographic environment. Students will examine the work of photographers such as Arnold Newman, Karsh, Platon and others.

NOTE: Classes are taught off site at Jeff Ross’ Studio.

Instructor: Jeff Ross

Ages: 15 and up / Intermediate Levels

Required Supplies: Digital slr with manual control for shutter speed and aperture, computer with image editing software, flash drive to transport images. Classes are held offsite at Jeff Ross’ studio (address will be provided to registered students).
