Robert Morrison: Artist Archive

Robert (“Bob”) Morrison (1941-2018) was born in Fresno, CA. He earned his BA Degree in Art at Fresno State University in 1962 and his master’s degree in Design at Stanford University. He taught art at The University of California, Davis, and then went to work at the University of Nevada, Reno as an Art Professor in 1967. Morrison showed in New York, Dallas, San Antonio, San Francisco, Sacramento, and Reno, and was reviewed in Sculpture magazine, among other national and regional publications. He was recipient of a fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts, a major commission for the state capitol, and the Nevada Governor’s Arts Award.

Robert Morrison was a sculptor who worked in realistic and abstract modes in his early career, but later became more widely known for his elaborate installations fashioned from sheet metal and other materials. His brother Bill Morrison was a San Francisco-based performance artist whose work often deployed sound as an integral element, work that influenced Robert’s use of sound in this installations and public performances of poetry.
