Masterworks of European Painting from the Toledo Museum of Art

Featuring the celebrated European Paintings collection at the Toledo Museum of Art, this exhibition showcases the works of major artists working in France, Italy, Spain, Holland, the Netherlands, and Britain from the 16th through the 19th centuries. Highlighting over 50 masterpieces by artists such as Francisco de Goya, Jacques-Louis David, Rembrandt van Rijn, Joseph Mallord William Turner, Paolo Veronese, and Jan Brueghel the Elder, this exhibition reflects the exceptional breadth and quality of Toledo’s collection.

Presented in Reno for the first time, the paintings display subjects and themes that have captivated and intrigued people for centuries. Sections focused on mythology and antiquity, the representation of the natural world, and the beauty of the everyday encourage visitors to look closely. Other themes explored in the exhibition include patronage, global networks, and art markets, illustrating the essential role that painting has played in European history and how these artists navigated a rapidly changing world.

This exhibition is organized by the Toledo Museum of Art in Toledo, Ohio and the Nevada Museum of Art with the support of The Museum Box.
