Guided tours are offered every Friday at 1 pm as well as Saturday and Sunday at 11 am. Please note that starting December 1, 2022, Guided Tours will be offered on Thursdays at 5 pm (except the first Thursday of each month), Fridays at 2 pm, Saturdays at 11 am and 2 pm, and Sundays at 11 am. Reservations are recommended.

The Northwest Regional Professional Development Program in partnership with the Nevada Museum of Art would like to invite new teachers in the first three years of their careers to be celebrated during a reception with appetizers and cash bar followed by a panel discussion offering support to new teachers. There will also be vendor tables and opportunities to network with the Northern Nevada education community.

Preview Reception: Janna Ireland on the Architectural Legacy of Paul Revere Williams in Nevada

Please join us at the Nevada State Museum, Las Vegas, for a preview of the exhibition, Janna Ireland on the Architectural Legacy of Paul Revere Williams in Nevada. Presented in partnership with the Nevada Museum of Art, this exhibition features the contemporary photography of Janna Ireland, who explores the important contributions of architect Paul R. Williams (1894-1980) in Nevada. Williams was the first licensed African American architect to work in the western region of the United States, designing buildings in the 1920s through the 1970s. His work in Nevada spans from the 1930s through the 1970s.
 
Enjoy brief remarks by Nevada Museum of Art Associate Curator and Outreach Director, Carmen Beals, and photographer Janna Ireland.

Symposium – Adaline Kent: The Click of Authenticity

The first retrospective exhibition of one of midcentury America’s most innovative artists to occur in nearly sixty years, Adaline Kent: The Click of Authenticity features approximately 120 works that span Adaline Kent’s entire career and chart major thematic developments in the artist’s work as it progressed from figuration to abstraction. Join us for this half-day symposium as we explore the life and legacy of Adaline Kent (1900-1957), her love for the outdoors, her connection to the region, major thematic developments from figuration to abstraction. 

Presenters include:

  1. Apsara DiQuinzio, Senior Curator of Contemporary Art
  2. Jeff Gunderson, Archivist and Librarian for the San Francisco Art Institute 
  3. Alexander Nemerov, Carl & Marilynn Thoma Provostial Professor in the Arts and Humanities at Stanford University
  4. Jenni Sorkin, Professor, History of Art & Architecture, UC Santa Barbara
  5. Elaine Y. Yau, Associate Curator at the UC Berkeley Art Museum 

An accompanying book, published by Rizzoli Electa and designed by Purtill Family Business will be available for purchase.

Doors open at 9:30 am. Program begins at 10 am. Morning coffee and a buffet lunch are included with registration. A no host bar will also be available for guests.

Writers in the Woods: Writing Workshop with Author Steven Dunn

Author Steven Dunn presents a writing workshop designed to provide tips and ideas for generating new work. Steven Dunn is a 2021 Whiting Award winner, shortlisted for Granta magazine’s “Best Young American Novelists.” He is the author of two books from Tarpaulin Sky Press: water & power and Potted Meat, which was a co-winner of the 2015 Tarpaulin Sky Book Awards, a finalist for the Colorado Book Award, and has been adapted for a short film entitled The Usual Route, from Foothills Productions. Steven was born and raised in West Virginia, and after 10 years in the Navy he earned a B.A. in Creative Writing from the University of Denver and a M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Goddard College. He currently teaches creative writing at Naropa University.
 
No previous writing experience or written work is needed. Please bring a pen and paper or charged laptop to participate in writing exercises. 
 
Presented by University of Nevada, Reno Lake Tahoe’s Writers in the Woods literary reading and workshop series. 
 
Advanced registration recommended, though not required. Walk-ups are welcome.

A Popera Winter Wonderland presented by Sierra Music Society

Sierra Music Society welcomes the holiday season with their premiere vocal ensemble Popera! Vocal artistry at its best, this exciting group consists of men and women offering an eclectic mix of music to delight audiences of all ages. The various music stylings include Light Opera, Broadway, Jazz, Grand Opera, and Contemporary. 

*Doors open at 4 pm with passed hors ‘d oeuvres and a cash bar.

Presented as part of “UPSTAGE: A Literary and Performing Art Series” supported by the Nightingale Family Foundation and the Williams Foundation.
