The Reno Jazz Orchestra presents all new material in a showcase of original compositions by contemporary composers. Led by music director, Doug Coomler, the seventeen-piece orchestra invites you on a musical journey exploring new and innovative directions in jazz music.

For 50 years, Robert Adams has made compelling, provocative, and highly influential photographs that show the wonder and fragility of the American landscape, its inherent beauty, and the inadequacy of our response to it. Sarah Greenough, senior curator and head of the department of photographs at the National Gallery of Art, discusses American Silence: The Photographs of Robert Adams. This program will explore works from not only the artist’s most important projects but also lesser-known ones that depict suburban sprawl, strip malls, highways, homes, and stores, as well as rivers, skies, the prairie, and the ocean.

Sarah Greenough is senior curator and head of the department of photographs at the National Gallery of Art, Washington. Prior to coming to the Gallery, Greenough received her B.A. at the University of Pennsylvania and her M.A. and Ph.D. at the University of New Mexico where she studied with the noted photographic historian Beaumont Newhall. In 1978 she was awarded a Samuel H. Kress Fellowship at the Gallery where she has worked ever since. In 1990 she became the founding curator of the department of photographs and has been responsible for establishing and growing the National Gallery’s collection of photographs, which now numbers more than 21,000 works made between 1839 and the present. She also established the program for photography at the National Gallery, which now presents two to three photography exhibitions per year in the museum’s dedicated photography galleries, as well as many smaller installations. 

David Allen Burns and Austin Young of the artist collective “Fallen Fruit” create engaging spaces and activations where audiences can enjoy museums in new, unexpected ways. Join Fallen Fruit at First Thursday and contribute to a future “Reno Edition” of Fallen Fruit Magazine by responding to artist-directed writing prompts and by creating themed collages.

Educators are invited to these FREE monthly informative roundtables incorporating and following the Educator Evenings. These Zoom discussions provide participants an opportunity to further discuss the presented topics as they relate to early childhood education.

The OutWest Film Fest celebrates Queer Film from around the world with sixteen films from ten countries in Short Film, Documentary and Feature Film Categories. 

Session 1: Documentary Films from 2-4 pm.  The six films in this category include the winning film: Black Rainbow Love along with selected films TRANSPARENTE, I AM, Cut Your Hair, Sex Tapes: Lessons from a 7ft Penis & Friends, and Queer Is A Tender Feeling.

Session 2: Short Films will be screened from 5-7 pm including the Winning Short Film MINT TEA as well as Constellations, Coffee & water, Come Out, Domesticated Animals, Wolf Tone, Clover, Eddy, and It’s Late.

The third session for Winning Feature Film screening of Last Gasp – Brokeback Fields Chapter One directed by Robert Pagan will be shown at Our Center (located at 1745 S Wells Ave Reno, NV 89502) on Sunday, October 16th at 6 pm.
