Reflexions of Impressionism in America with Brigid Barton
Impressionism emerged as a style in 1870s France and very quickly spread among artists throughout Europe and the United States. In this talk, Brigid Barton will explore the beginnings of Impressionism in and around Paris, as well as the variants of Impressionism which proliferated in artists’ colonies in America in the years before World War I.
Brigid Barton is an art historian specializing in modern European art. She is a retired professor from Santa Clara University and now teaches outreach courses for Stanford University, Santa Clara University, and the Jewish Community Center in Palo Alto. She also lectures at the Stanford Museum and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
David McCamant on Impressionist Painting Techniques
Join local artist and E.L. Cord Museum School instructor, David McCamant as we explore the painting techniques attributed to American and French Impressionism. From brushwork and composition to light and color theory learn more about how the Impressionists worked with paint to create their signature style.

Stay Gold: Summer Ride and Rooftop Blowout with the Holland Project
Join us for our annual summer blow-out, presented in partnership with the Holland Project and the Reno Bike Project. This year’s theme: STAY GOLD. The event kicks off at The Holland Project with a parking lot party featuring installations, DIY letter station, vintage Reno neon, and food and drink. Peek by the Serva Pool Space to see The Jacket, an exploration of the jacket as a symbol of youth identity and culture though the ages. At dusk, we move. Hop on your bike for a night ride, with secret pit stops along way. The journey ends at the Nevada Museum of Art with a 60s zodiac star party in the Sky Room. Palm readers, tarot, star gazing with Fleichmann Planetarium, a moon landing station, and the ultimate dance party. Special guests include the Can’t Gets, Golden Girls, and more.

Unbranded Film Screening (105 min)
Four young Cowboys hatch an outrageous plot to adopt, train, and ride a string of wild mustangs 3,000 miles from Mexico to Canada through the wildest terrain of the American West. Artist Anthony McCall on Art in the Virtual Environment
Anthony McCall is a British-born, New York-based artist known for creating immersive, “solid light” installations, which occupy a space between sculpture, cinema and drawing. McCall’s work is represented in numerous collections, including, Tate, London; Museum of Modern Art, New York; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York and SFMoMA, amongst others. McCall’s new solid light installation is part of the Nevada Museum of Art’s Contemporary Collection and is on view July 30–January 8. Join us as McCall discusses his newest work followed by a walk-through of the exhibition.

AIGA Presents: Steve Lambert – Dreaming Bigger than Clients
For artist Steve Lambert, art is a bridge that connects uncommon, idealistic, or even radical ideas with everyday life. He carefully crafts conditions where these discussions can take place, often working collaboratively with the audience, bringing them into the process or even having them physically complete the work. Join Steve as he discusses how to Dream Bigger Than Clients.

The Folk & the Lore: Secret Lives
From the creative mind of Jessi LeMay comes the storytelling and narrative filmmaking project The Folk & the Lore. This multimedia project aims to collect, archive, and tell stories from Reno and throughout the region through photography, short films, and live storytelling events that will be held regularly at the Nevada Museum of Art. Together, we believe that when you know your neighbor’s story, not only do you feel more connected to your community, but those stories become part of your own. Join this event for an evening of storytelling and films centered around the theme of “Secret Lives.”

Rodeo Poet Paul Zarzyski: Steering With My Knees
Join us as rodeo poet, recording artist and former bareback bronc rider, Paul Zarzyski, launches us into the month-long celebration of Artown with an evening full of poetry, lyrics and prose presented in Zarzyski’s “rock-n’-rowel” delivery.
Doors open at 5 pm with a cash bar. Following the performance, Zarzyski will be on hand to sign copies of his latest book of poetry, Steering With My Knees. A spoken word and music CD of the same title will also be available.

Rural Route Film Festival
Celebrate the unique qualities, possibilities, and challenges of the rural with the best of 2015’s Rural Route Film Festival entries, ten short films in all. The Rural Route Film Festival was created to highlight works that deal with unique people and places outside of the bustle of the city. Since 2002, the Rural Route Film Festival has been centered in New York City, where both founders (originally from Iowa) met working in the film industry. The content is more relevant every year, tackling some of the most important topics of the day within the slow food movement, global warming/environmental arena, and life sustainability symposium.
