Celebrate Tahoe with a personal shopping experience at the Museum Store featuring three regional artists: Truckee-based potter Andy Blanchard, Tahoe watercolor artist Barb Kallestad, and jewelry designer Casey Wold.  

D.I.C.E. 2015: PLAY

D.I.C.E. ’15 brings together creatives, artists, and designers for a series of talks by speakers whose work explores ideas about play in design, including award-winning public artist Roman de Salvo, design thinker and Pinterest Brand Design Manager Everett Katigbak, and landscape architect Kevin Conger. A curated selection of local video presentations will explore playful ideas for urban interventions on the downtown Reno ReTrac “lids,” and ideas for revitalizing this downtown area as Reno rebounds. A reception follows the afternoon’s events.

Overflow Seating: Maya Lin: What is Missing and Lake Tahoe

A limited number of overflow seats in a simulcast space for the talk by artist and architect Maya Lin are now available. Don’t miss her talk as she describes her memorial project What is Missing? and its relationship to her commissioned artworks featured in the exhibition Tahoe: A Visual History.

Westward Whoa!  It’s manifest destiny with a digital twist, a wilder, more whimsical West where the pioneering spirit is taken to fantastical new extremes.  Equal parts Steampunk ball and surreal saloon, this imaginative evening will feature a live performance by San Francisco’s Le Cancan Bijoux and a free screening of American Astronaut, a western space musical produced and starring Cory McAbee.  Dress in costume of appropriate flair and help us reinvent history. Ticket includes desserts and savory treats.

The Folk & the Lore: Stories of Lake Tahoe

Originally scheduled for Thursday, November 19, the Stories of Lake Tahoe event has been rescheduled for Friday, December 19 at 6pm.

The Folk & the Lore focuses its attention on Lake Tahoe and brings together a handful of live and digitally recorded storytellers to share their interesting, compelling, funny, and poignant tales.

E. L. Wiegand Foundation presents Bring Your Native Baskets

Bring your native baskets to the Museum where a panel of prominent experts will help identify and describe the object’s origins. Panelists include Brian Bibby, Marvin Cohodas, Catherine Fowler, Gene Hattori, and SueAnn Monteleone. Bring as many baskets as you like.

The Museum commissioned composer Jean-Paul Perrotte to create a new work and “…the river flows, shaping a changing landscape…” is the 10-instrument result.  Experience the aural landscape of Lake Tahoe and the Truckee River then enjoy dinner* at chez louie following the premiere performance of this original musical work.

All galleries will be closed today for the installation of Tahoe: A Visual History, opening to the public on Saturday, August 22, 2015.  The Museum Store, chez louie and the E.L. Cord Museum School are open during normal business hours. 

PLEASE NOTE: Friday, August 21, the entire museum will be CLOSED to prepare for the Tahoe gala. This includes Chez Louie. The property will re-open Saturday, August 22 at 10 am.
