Skeeno in Black & White: Kevin Seconds and the Reno Punk Scene

Join us for an evening of words and film as Kevin Seconds of the internationally-renowned band 7 Seconds reminisces about the early days of Reno’s vibrant and ultra-independent punk and hardcore scene of the early ’80s and his band’s role in it.

Sure to be both funny and passionate, the night will be rounded out with a screening of 1981’s “7Seconds Goes to San Francisco,” a long-lost underground film by Gary Elam and Jim Deiderichsen. This evening is part of “Skeeno in Black & White & Words: Roots of Punk in Reno 1979-1985,” a Reno punk retrospective exhibition featuring photos, fanzine, flyers and letters at The Holland Project from August 11-September 4, 2015.

State of the Arts

This forum will convene members of the arts community to generate meaningful discussion surrounding the state of the region’s cultural anchors, and to identify areas of opportunity. Panel discussion from 1:30 – 5 pm, followed by a reception from 5 – 6:30 pm.

Sponsored and co-presented by the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.

The Folk & The Lore: Something from Nothing, Stories of the Creative Process

From the creative mind of Jessi LeMay comes the storytelling and narrative filmmaking project The Folk & the Lore. This multimedia project aims to collect, archive, and tell stories from Reno and throughout the region through photography, short films, and live storytelling events that will be held regularly at the Nevada Museum of Art. Together, we believe that when you know your neighbor’s story, not only do you feel more connected to your community, but those stories become part of your own.

Join this premiere event for an evening of storytelling and films based on the creative process: “Something from Nothing”. Doors open at 5pm for social hour and chez louie cash bar. Stories begin at 6pm.
