FILM: Art and Craft

Whether it is with a Matisse or a Picasso, art forger Mark Landis has duped the best of curators with his precise imitations of art masterpieces. Interestingly, the talented Landis never asks for money, but only donates his counterfeits to American art museums. Art and Craft starts out as a cat-and-mouse art caper, seeking answers to questions on authorship and authenticity; what develops is an intimate tale about human obsession and the universal need for community, appreciation, and purpose.

FILM: Sign Painters

Hand-painted signs are a product of a fascinating 150 year-old American history. What was once a common job has now become a highly specialized trade, a unique craft in an era of technological advances. Sign Painters, directed by Faythe Levine & Sam Macon, stylistically explores this unacknowledged art form through anecdotal accounts from artists across the country including Ira Coyne, Bob Dewhurst, Keith Knecht, Norma Jeane Maloney and Stephen Powers. These vanguards of unseen originality are leading a renaissance with a keen creative purpose and exemplify the working class American success story. Sign Painters celebrates those keeping the tradition intact with a bespoke approach and appreciation for a balance between art and commerce.

The Folk & the Lore

From the creative mind of Jessi LeMay comes the storytelling and narrative filmmaking project The Folk & the Lore. This multimedia project aims to collect, archive, and tell stories from Reno and throughout the region through photography, short films, and live storytelling events that will be held regularly at the Nevada Museum of Art. Together, we believe that when you know your neighbor’s story, not only do you feel more connected to your community, but those stories become part of your own. Join this premiere event for an evening of storytelling and films based on the holidays. Doors open at 5pm for social hour and chez louie cash bar. Stories begin at 6pm.
