Bristlecone in Watercolor

Bristlecone in Watercolor

Mondays, May 11 and 18
4 - 8 pm

Join this class to explore the unique character and enduring beauty of bristlecone pine trees in watercolor. Through a combination of wet-in-wet, wet-in-damp, and controlled wet-on-dry techniques, students will practice rendering expressive branching structures, twisted forms, and weathered trunks set against atmospheric backgrounds. You will learn how to convey age, resilience, and movement through intentional line quality, transparent layering (glazing), and strong value contrast, while simplifying complex natural forms into compelling compositions.

To complete the painting, we will also develop rocky terrain and high-elevation landscapes, using subtle shifts in temperature and color variation to create depth, light, and mood. By the end of the class, students will have a deeper understanding of how to capture texture, structure, and atmosphere in the landscape
