Custom Matting Workshop

Custom Matting Workshop

Monday, April 6
4 - 7 pm

This class introduces students to the fundamentals of professional artwork presentation and long-term preservation. Participants will explore matboard types, ply thicknesses, archival standards, and standard sizing, while learning how to thoughtfully select colors, textures, and margin proportions that enhance and support the artwork. The course also covers appropriate backing boards, protective sleeves, and essential mounting techniques commonly used in galleries and art fairs. Each student will cut two custom mats and assemble two fully finished artworks with backing boards, gaining hands-on experience with precision tools and clean craftsmanship. By the end of the class, students will be equipped to create a polished, archival-quality mat-and-frame presentation that elevates and protects their work for exhibition or sale. Matting materials will be provided.
