Educator Evening: Nature, Art, and SEL in Your Classroom
Join Elizabeth Brooks, Arts Integration Specialist, for an encore presentation of her NV STEAM Conference workshop. Take respite in a biophilic and standards-based approach to artmaking: outdoor observational nature journaling. In this hands-on art making experience, you will learn how to guide students through a nature journaling session by combining skills of data collection, image production, and emotion identification. Participants will select objects of “awe” from the indoor/outdoor garden installation Monument to Sharing and record visual and verbal evidence in handmade journals. Various 2D media will be available to both “use what you’ve got” and/or explore a new media to engage interest and access a wide range of ability levels. A wine reception will follow the presentation.
Educator Evenings are a FREE professional development series offering state-approved professional development hours for participation. Professional development hours are available for participating in the Educator Evenings and issued upon request.
Educator Evenings are sponsored by Nevada Gold Mines, operated by Barrick, Arrow Electronics Inc, Click Bond, Robert Z. Hawkins Foundation, Jill and Par Tolles, Bank of America, and the Nell J. Redfield Foundation.
