Third Coast Dance Film Festival

Third Coast Dance Film Festival celebrates the intersection of contemporary dance and the moving image with a screening series of short dance films. Currently entering its fourth season, Third Coast is an annual dance film festival based in Houston, TX. The 2014 festival will screen nineteen film shorts, including thirteen international films from Canada, Germany, Israel, Mexico, Norway, South Korea, Spain, and the UK. The program includes three world, six USA, and ten Texas premieres. The 2014 curators are Lydia Hance, Ashley Horn, Rebecca Salzar, and Rosie Trump. Join festival co-founder Rosie Trump for a celebration of dance and the moving image. 

Nineteen films are included in this year’s festival. Highlights among them include:

 

NEARBY FAR, 2013 (USA) is set in the gorgeous landscape of the Oregon Dunes, and explores the endurance of a relationship over the spans of time, space and distance. The film is shot in monochrome, and uses a time lapse process.

WHAT’S WHAT, 2014 (USA) Best of Festival Award Winner  This short dance extravaganza tips its hat to the history of gender-bending performance and early filmmaking.

BRIEF CANDLE, 2013 (Canada) Brief Candle puts Andrew Wyeth’s ‘Christina’s World’ into motion, and explores how bio-electricity galvanizes into discovering muscular intelligence. The light field was setup with 50 lamps, thousands of feet of power cord, and careful visual effects in post.

ALONE? IN THE THEATER!, 2013 (Germany) Best of Festival Award Winner  A one-man project made in the foyer of Staatstheater Nürnberg about a man finding himself alone in the big theatre. As time goes by his lonely experience becomes a joyful one, far from loneliness and boredom.
