Family programs at the Museum are designed to provide an opportunity for children and adults to explore, experience and talk about art together through our hands/ON! Family Program, Museum School classes, Guided Tours, workshops, open studios and films.
hands/ON! Family Program
Presented on the Second Saturday of every month FREE due to support from the Mathewson CLAT #5, the Sato Foundation, the City of Reno Arts and Culture Commission, and Art4Moore.
The Museum’s popular family program occurs on the Second Saturday of every month in 2012. Children, parents, grandparents, neighbors, and friends are welcome to take part in a day filled with art projects, gallery activities, storytelling, and cultural events.

hands/ON! Mexican Carnival: Face Painting, Mask Making and Maracas
Saturday February 11, 2012 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Learn about the culture of Mexico and celebrate Carnival. Join us for live demonstrations of Mexican folk music, dancing and storytelling. Make your own music using authentic maracas. Drop in for face painting or spend some time in the Redfield Learning Center working on a personalized Carnival mask.

hands/ON! Light and Color: Stained Glass Windows and Kaleidoscopes
Saturday March 10, 2012 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Visit the exhibition Art Glass of the Tiffany Era, then try your hand at creating your own one-of-a-kind stained glass sun catcher. Join us for colorful stories in the galleries and change the way you see the Museum by viewing it through an assortment of kaleidoscopes.

hands/ON! Strings and Things: Collages, Prints and Paper
Saturday April 14, 2012 / 10:00 am – 4:00 pm
Using the basic elements of design combined with everyday items including string, yarn, paper, and other recycled materials participants will create 2-D or 3-D mixed media collages. View the exhibition Anne Lindberg: Modal Lines to see how contemporary artist Anne Lindberg creates large scale sculptures uses simple tools like thread and graphite pencil to create her art. Join us for storytelling in the galleries and create your own multicolored collagraph prints.

Second Saturdays
Second Saturdays are FREE at the Nevada Museum of Art thanks to the Nightingale Family Foundation. Throughout 2011, families, individuals and visitors get the chance to visit the Museum for free and experience the wide range of exhibitions on display, and learn about the educational programs and unique activities on offer throughout the year. As part of the Second Saturdays program, guests have the chance to speak with trained Museum docents about the exhibitions and the Museum, while answering questions about the E.L. Cord Museum School, social activities and educational programs at the Museum, Gallery Tours, special events, and more. Don't miss out on this wonderful opportunity to share the Museum with family and friends!

Family Classes at the E. L. Cord Museum School

Many of the courses offered through the Museum's E.L. Cord Museum School are designed for students of all ages (toddlers to teens) as well as some parent-child experiences. See our current course offerings here.

Kids 5 and up will enjoy creating a different studio art project during select events such as First Thursdays and Members’ Premieres. Kids under 5 are welcome to participate with a parent.
